Alumni Society golf tournament benefits abused children

The Penn State Altoona Alumni Society is partnering with the Blair County Multidisciplinary Investigative Team (MDIT) for the second annual Community for Kids Golf Tournament on Friday, August 12, 2016, at Sinking Valley Country Club in Altoona. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Blair County MDIT’s Child Advocacy Team, Penn State Altoona Athletics, and the Penn State Altoona Alumni Society scholarship fund.

Last year’s inaugural tournament was held at Iron Masters Country Club and generated $4,000 toward the development of a Child Advocacy Center Model in Blair County through the Blair County MDIT.

The Blair County MDIT is a group of professionals who work to effectively and efficiently investigate child abuse cases, utilizing evidence-based practices in an effort to reduce trauma to child victims.

The Penn State Altoona Alumni Society’s Board of Directors has developed a lasting partnership with the Blair County MDIT and accepted the challenge of raising initial funds through this golf tournament. The 2015 golf tournament was chaired by the Alumni Society’s immediate past president Tom Koehle ’03.

“Collaboration with the Penn State Altoona Alumni Society is another example of the community’s commitment to child protection,” said Blair County MDIT member and Blair County’s First Assistant District Attorney Jackie Bernard ’90. “The funds raised from the golf tournament served as seed money for the continued development of a Child Advocacy Center Model for the Blair County region. We look forward to many more successful years of partnership with the Alumni Society on this important endeavor to end child abuse.”
