The use and invention of paper mâché can be linked back to ancient times in places in the East, such as China and Tibet; the use of paper mâché although was popular during the Georgian and Victorian periods, between around 1720 and 1900 (The history of Papier Mâché • the art and craft of papier mâché). Today we still used paper mâché enormously in the art and objects made from it can be found in museums around the world. There are thousands of recipes that can be found to make paper mâché but above is one that I created where it has a more clay type consistency and will dry with a harder surface due to the use of plaster and spackle. Some forms of paper mâché are baked to help the body hold structure better, but this recipe I created will not need this aspect of heat and will set with a sturdy structure while air drying. Due to the clay consistency, users will be able to use this paper mâché by itself or over other materials such as canvases, tinfoil, or even chicken wire to get to a desired product.
