Ironically Academic Autobiographies

A full scholarship covering tuition, living expenses, book/supplies, and health insurance is very well-known among students. Having a scholarship encourages the learning spirit within scholars and supports them to devote themselves to studying. Many studies have consistently shown that it is very wasteful if Henry cannot get one.

He deserves to have a full scholarship to study about business in the U.S because the best Henry includes some wonderful knowledge, many perfect physical skills, and the ability of earning a lot of money. His friends revealed that they all agree and have the same idea about this issue. Seo (2018) indicated that Henry has seemed to be very hard-working by reading books relating to his major in free time. Besides, this study noted that he likes to write his ideas or thoughts on various topic and travels to explore new locations. Evidence being proved above leads to an obvious truth that Henry should receive a full scholarship.

Both Henry’s friends and his family are involved in discussing this topic. Two days ago, a long funny survey that mentioned Henry’s strengthens, weaknesses, and specialists was finished by his sister. Eating and sleeping were listed in turn as the strongest and most annoying quality. In the document “Survey Questions & Responses”, Henry’s sister (2018) stated that “there is no food that you cannot eat” and “I can’t understand why and how you can sleep everywhere and every time like this. You take a nap every single second, don’t you?”. Those ideas provide us the picture of a special Henry. Thanks to that abilities, he makes himself different and distinct from other competitors on the way of exploring a scholarship. The more people argue to this topic, the more truth has come out. There is no doubt that a full scholarship should be given to Henry.

Last but not least, another essential supporting thing utilized in Henry’s scholarship application is his achievement in recent months. During the Fall 2018 semester in the IECP, many goals have been accomplished by Henry. One of the proudest achievements is understanding Arabic in some specific situations. In the beginning of this semester, listening to Arabic seems to be the biggest challenge for Henry. However, this experience known as culture shock has brought an incredible benefit. He comes to the United States and studies at the IECP in order to learn English, but when he spoke English and thought about vocabulary, he could understand Arabic or the contexts that his friends who speak Arabic were talking about. He has realized that on the road of exploring English, he had learned Arabic by some ways. “It is a kind of killing two birds with one stone”, Henry said. If he could go back time in August 2018, he should have wished that beside many popular languages such as English, German, French, Chinese, Japanese, Spanish, he probably needs to learn Arabic as well. That is the reason why Henry decided to stay one more semester at the IECP so as to learn both English and Arabic. “I believe that he can get a full scholarship later” (Trieu, 2018).

From all of the reasons above, an undeniable fact is that Henry totally has chance to get a full scholarship. His characteristics, strengthens, weaknesses, specialists, abilities, and achievements were shown as strong evidence. In the future, he should work conjunction with his friends, family, and teachers to produce a specific plan and make his dream come true.

Researchers have found that there is a common feature, which is an attitude, amongst college students. This paper will prove whether or not the discovery from researchers is true by giving Yeeji’s autobiography, and then, it will provide suggestion for using free time effectively. Through Yeeji’s autobiography, moreover, this paper found that Yeeji also have the same attitude with the finding in the researches due to challenge and the relationship between the attitude and family culture.

The first finding is that Yeeji has a problem to start a class in the early morning with waken brain. For example, Yeeji doesn’t speak more in the morning than in the afternoon. Gadi (2018) states that Yeeji is usually working quietly in a class. With regard to the fact, Inji Seo, Yeeji’s younger sister, has revealed the reason why the situation happens. She insists that studying in the early morning represents a hurdle for Yeeji. The best way to study for Yeeji is to start studying earlier before starting a class so as to wake up her brain (Inji and Moad, 2018).

The second discovery is that the attitude is formed by family culture for Yeeji.  According to her father, this attitude is influenced by curfew hours (2018). Even though her father gives specific time to come back to home, Yeeji arrives the home late time around 12am. It could be hard to focus something in the morning for Yeeji due to not enough sleep time (Seo, 2018). Seo strongly believes that because his belief is informed by similarities which Seo already had (Seo, 2018). Moad has suggested that Yeeji should know when the effective time is to achieve Yeeji’s goal, applying for master degree in Curriculum and Instruction Department. Moreover, it is good for Yeeji to have free time such as walking outside before she studies (Moad, 2018).

To solve the problem about the attitude, using the time before starting a class is efficient for Yeeji. At that time, Yeeji can read many articles since Yeeji said that she wants to read lots of types of articles if she can go back to the beginning of the semester. During this semester, Yeeji had challenge to use prepositions and write sentences’ forms in various ways in a class in the morning. Therefore, reading some articles in the free time can help to get grammar and language sense, and it also helps to wake up Yeeji’s brain before starting a class.

Haruna is studying at Penn State University as an exchange student. Since she came to Penn State, she met many people who have different culture from all over the world and she experienced various things. Through them, she found new things about herself. For example, her personality and culture. Therefore, in this autobiography she interviewed her mother and her classmate in order to know about herself more. First, she will mention about her personal information and family. Next, she is going to describe about her experience at Penn State.

At first, she interviewed her classmate, Ali. He is studying about Haruna to learn different culture. The study notes that Haruna Sasaki is a Japanese woman who was born in Aomori, Japan. In addition, the study also reported that she later moved to Ibaraki, Japan where she lived by herself for 3 years. Another study has found that she arrived at State College on August 8^th to continue her studies as an international student. Moreover, she will study International Corporation next semester, and after that she will be returning to Japan. Ali (2018) describes that Haruna picked Penn State instead of other universities because the students are more active. In addition, she picked this university because she doesn’t like rural areas and other universities are in more rural areas than here. As Ali (2018) has shown, her hobbies are shopping, singing and traveling. In addition, the research found that Haruna’s face denotes that she is from Asia.

Next, she interviewed her mother, Michiko. Haruna was raised by Michiko. According to Michiko (2018), Haruna’s strength is that she is kind for everyone and she is bright and cheerful. On the other hand, her weakness is that she is stubborn. The best memory that Michiko was impressed by Haruna is that Haruna performed the song “Canon” she selected by herself at the piano concert when she was 8 years old. The similarity between Haruna and Michiko is both of them are easygoing. However, Michiko mentioned Haruna doesn’t care the small things and it is different from Michiko. In addition, Haruna has changed from the past because she becomes not to be timid with strangers. On the other hand, the same point of her as before is that she is kind and an eager beaver. Michiko noted she wants Haruna to have a dream and make it come true, have own family and live with them while working. Moreover, Michiko hopes Haruna would be healthy, take good care of herself and not forget the gratitude to people around her. Finally, Michiko was surprised by Haruna because she changed to be active and she is studying abroad although she was very timid with strangers and shy girl when she was a child.

Next, she explains her experience at Penn State. The research has discovered that Haruna has gained weight since she came to Penn State. It’s because she lives in the dormitory and the dining has a lot of American food. Moreover, she really enjoys American food there. The study also found she definitely needs to go to the gym to burn away her fat.

Haruna’s proudest achievement this semester is that she could make many friends and learn their different cultures including their religious, ideas. On the other hand, the biggest difficulty for Haruna this semester is communication in English. She has struggled with listening to English spoken too fast for her and telling what she wants to say. However, she could improve her English because she talked a lot with her roommate studying Japanese. Haruna taught her roommate Japanese in English and it was very helpful to develop her speaking. In addition, her classmates of IECP are very nice people and they talked to her friendly. It helped her to practice speaking and enjoy her life here. Haruna really appreciates the kindness given by her classmates. In addition, Haruna wishes she could tell herself a few month ago that she will meet friends from Saudi Arabia, Spain and Korea. Then she would study those languages a little bit in order to enjoy communication in various language more.

In conclusion, through this research, she found that she has been helped by many people in her life. Especially, she really appreciates her classmates’ kindness. Thanks to them, she could enjoy the IECP classes and her life at Penn State. She is going to miss her classmates, but she promises to visit her friends’ countries in the future.

There are data which show that the average life expectancy of Japanese women is more than eighty. Therefore, the world has paid attention to Japanese women’s daily lives and characteristics. This study reveals what type of person Yuko, who came from Japan eight months ago, is. The one fact that has already been known about Yuko before this study is that a typical Yuko consists of a large amount of Japanese food, several pounds of Lindt chocolates, and Haagen-Dazs ice cream (Otaki, 2017). The purpose of this study is to understand the ecology of Yuko and detect the main cause of the high average life expectancy of Japanese women from her data.

First, Kawaguchi (2018) explained Yuko’s characteristics because she is Yuko’s mother and the person who knows the most about her. According to her study, the characteristics of Yuko are referred as a little shy with new people. Yuko takes a while to get used to talking with them. Once she get used to new people she will start talking more and treasure the friends. As Kawaguchi (2018) indicated, Yuko has been good at emphasizing and thought about other people’s feeling as her name, which means “kind girl”. Ji (2018) stated that the main reason for her emphasizing is that Yuko is an only child. Therefore, her parents worried about relationships between others and her, and they always taught her the importance of walking in other’s shoes. According to Otaki (2018), Yuko appreciates what her parents have done for her.

Moreover, there are some studies about her hobbies. Ji (2018) found that Yuko has a lot of hobbies, such as eating, cooking, watching musicals, and traveling. In fact, some studies have consistently reported that Yuko is excited when she travels to many new places in the U.S. She spends much time on traveling because she has to go back to Japan soon next March. Ji (2018) got the reason about this and noted that Yuko came here because of her husband’s job. However, from a survey by Kawaguchi (2018), it is observed that Yuko has no desire in cold. She tends not to have motivation to do anything and cannot even get out of bed.

Kawaguchi (2018) provided Yuko’s mother’s favorite memory of Yuko in her childhood. It was the first time when Yuko’s mother could hear Yuko’s first words. Yuko’s mother opened the curtain in the morning as usual. At that time, Yuko, who was baby, woke up and greeted. The first words spoken by Yuko was “Good morning”.

There are some studies about Yuko after she grew up. For example, Ji (2018) notes that Yuko has a master degree in Japan. Her major is biochemistry because she is interested in ecology. In fact, as Kawaguchi (2018) describes, Yuko’s university life was considered as enjoyable. She spent a lot of time with her friends more than her family. Moreover, she became free-spirited. For example, she got her hair streaked hot pink. They didn’t understand about her thinking.

Ji (2018) updates how Yuko’s life is. This study showed that Yuko’s life at State College for one year is too short for her. Otaki (2018) shows that Yuko has been studying English in IECP since May in 2018. She has studied academic writing in IECP in order to improve her English used for her job. Her proudest achieve this semester has been using various grammar. Before this semester, her writing was boring because she used same patterns such as places of transitions. Now, however, she knows how to make writing more attractive. The biggest challenge for Yuko this semester was not to write the sentence considered as weird by native speakers. Even if it is grammatically correct, sometimes it does not work. Therefore, to distinguish the difference was hard for her. If Yuko could have advised to herself before this semester, she would have told her not to worry about her writing and that her teacher, Jackie, would teach her. If Yuko could have done it, she would have made writings funnier with relaxed feelings.

Overall, Yuko is a little shy with new people but she came to the U.S, which she had never been to, and she has studied academic English. It is sometimes hard to her to study it. However, the traveling, which is one of her many hobbies, is the motivation that encourage her study. Moreover, her good memories with her family and friends support her in the new place. According to this ecology of Yuko, this study detected that the main cause of the high average life expectancy of Japanese women may be their keeping on challenging and enjoying their lives like Yuko. Three points, which are to set a goal, work towards achieving that goal, and enjoy the progress, can make their lives meaningful. Yuko mentioned that she will never stop her challenging.

This autobiography is brought to you by Fatmah Mohammad’s friends, relatives and Fatmah herself. It discusses the odd nature of Mohammad’s personality and weird dreams and fears. The purpose of this autobiography is to get to know one of the students that once wandered the halls of the Intensive English Communication Program. Moreover, it is a great opportunity to learn from people’s past experiences. Let’s dig in on what has been told about Fatmah’s personality and life.

Recent studies conducted at the Pennsylvania State University showed that Fatmah is happier when she is eating. Another research showed that Fatmah is grumpy in the morning. Due to the information listed above its best for anyone to feed fatmah before initiating a conversation. When people wanted to get to know Fatmah they referred to one of her classmates, Hussain Al Attar described her as an independent woman, a good listener and an impatient person. He thought of her as a person who gets angry really quick. But also stated that she easily calms down when she eats a cupcake. In the end, it’s a sealed deal that Fatmah finds her comfort in food.

A shift into Fatmah’s personal traits and qualities must take place to have a wider understanding on Fatmah.  In an interview with Fatmah”s father, he stated that intelligence and independence are her strongest qualities. When asked about her most annoying quality, her father shared that keeping things that annoys her to herself and not telling others what goes in her mind is one of her most annoying qualities (Mohammad, 2018). What is shared between fatmah and her father is kindness. Moreover, her father mentions that handling life and people is a unique quality that Fatmah has (Mohammad,2018). Fatmah once stated “ I have a lot in common with my father and that is the best thing about me” (Mohammad, 2018). It is easy for anyone to get to know the real Fatmah once she gets comfortable eating around them.

On an academic level, Fatmah’s proudest achievement in the last semester is her conversation partner presentation with her dear friend Isabella. Food prepared by Isabella was one of Fatmah’s favorite things this semester. What has been a great challenge for fatmah this semester is keeping up with the tasks of her science class because they’re designed for 8 year olds. Tasks involving visual aids bored Fatmah to death (Mohammad,2018). Fatmah would like to advise the old Fatmah not to stress about deadlines because she can do it and get the job done before the deadline. Fatmah would like to have skipped some morning classes to enjoy the weather in the beginning of classes in august.

To sum up, the duration of this project was fun because Fatmah learned so much about her personality and about what others have said about her. To reflect on this semester, there are many areas in Fatmah’s life that she needs to work more on, for example, she needs to cut down on sugar before she becomes a diabetic. Fatmah also needs to learn how to focus in her science class more. In the end, it was fun getting to see Fatmah through the eyes of her friends and relatives (Mohammad, 2018). It would be amazing to conduct another study in the next ten years to see how much she has changed through the years.
