AlKhajah (2019), 18 year old student who is a passionate gamer, believes that The Last Of Us is what got him into gaming. The Last Of Us is a horror-themed game that is set in a post-apocalyptic world, and the game revolves around a middle-aged man and a teenage girl creating a father- daughter relationship throughout the game. AlKhajah (2019) states that The Last Of Us changed his view on gaming. Moreover, AlKhajah (2019) believes that he is a scaredy cat. Researchers found that The Last Of Us helped AlKhajah (2019) conquer his fear of playing horror themed video games. In addition, AlKhajah (2019) mentioned that he was peer-pressured by his friends to buy the game. AlKhajah (2019) states that The Last Of Us is the best game of all time and that it has set a high bar for gaming.
After doing research on AlKhajah, researchers reached out to AlKhajah’s family and friends to interview them, some family members weren’t comfortable so they turned down the interview. After interviewing family and friends, researchers have found that AlKhajah’s parents think that he was an annoying child because all AlKhajah talked about was video games and how much he loved them. AlKhajah’s parents showed the interviewers an old photograph, and the interviewers concluded that the boy shown to be cosplaying spiderman in the photograph appears to be AlKhajah when he was a child. AlDoody (2019) believes that Hasan is a complainer and that he’s obsessed with video games. Researchers from all around the world were invited to participate in conducting the study on AlKhajah (2019), however, the international researchers were asked to study both Alkhajah’s fears and his childhood. A researcher on embarrassment from China found that “When AlKhajah (2019) did his first presentation, he felt choked up because he couldn’t speak and people started laughing at him”, which led to the discovery that AlKhajah suffers from stage fright. Moreover, an expert on childhood from Vietnam found that “Abdulrahman’s house is the place that Hasan visits to play after school. They played video games, Abdulrahman introduced other friends to Hasan as well.
Sometimes, they played a card game called “Cards Against Humanity” when they were kids, and that card game is very inappropriate for their age(s)” (Trieu, 2019). Asking researchers from around the world to help in this study contributed in letting readers know more about AlKhajah (2019). One thing that was noticed when conducting this research, is that AlKhajah (2019) spoke two different languages: Arabic and English. That’s why researchers started looking into that and they found that AlKhajah (2019) stated in a recent interview that “Learning English has been an incredible journey that I embarked on since the age of 10, and looking at how my English has improved throughout the years is really incredible. Moreover, I learned English because I really enjoyed how the language was spoken”. Researchers then reached out to other multilingual individuals to try to compare between both experiences, one individual mentioned that “Sunny learned English because she wanted to fit in, it sucks that you have to learn a language for the sad/wrong reason and not because you love it” (Liu, 2019). Which gives insight on how different peoples’ experiences can be while learning languages.
