The Intensive English Communication Program (IECP) of the Pennsylvania State University (PSU) is one of the best English programs in the United States. Shuaijie has an interesting childhood. His classmate Chen (2019) clarify that “When he was a child, he had a toy car which is an F-1 car. This car is red, and it needs gas to drive. It is his favorite toy in childhood. Furthermore, it is interesting that there are some comments about Shuaijie. Shuaijie was thought as a lazy boy by Ji and Ye (2019, the parents of Shuaijie). Similarly, Gianico (2019) teaching in the IECP illustrates that Shuaijie always sleeps. Ye (2019) reveals that she was riled by Shuaijie very often.

After growing up, when Shuaijie is 18, he needs to enter a university. As Ji (2019) demonstrates, Shuaijie decided to study abroad because Shuaijie was influenced by his parents. His parents thought studying abroad can open eyes and learn different cults. So, they started to prepare all the things. For example, this photo is Shuaijie’s American visa, a necessary thing for studying abroad. Ji (2019) suggests that it is really difficult to do the visa interview. He notes that Shuaijie spent much time and work in order to get this visa. According to Ji (2019), Shuaijie made an appointment for the interview about one month before. He came to Shanghai from his city by train one day before this interview. On that day, described by Ji (2019), Shuaijie got up very early to line up before the embassy. Moreover, Ji (2019) explains that Shuaijie was very nervous about entering the embassy because everything and everyone in it was too formal and serious.

Afterward, there is another awkward thing, “when he first arrived in the U.S., he did not know English very well. So, when he arrived at the custom, they tried to explain to him, but he had difficulty understanding them. Also, he had an issue with “restroom” word.” (Aldossary, 2019) So learning English is essential for Shuaijie.

Language learning is like a journey. According to Wu (2019), his friend Lylian can speak two languages, one is Mandarin and the other one is English. Wu (2019) explains that Lylian was born in the U.S. so she can improve English easily and quickly. However, she still learns Mandarin, one is because her mother asked her to do this, further reason is that she wanted to communicate better in Mandarin.Concerning Shuajie, he is a little different from her. For example, he learnt my second language: English in the U.S., not in his country. What’s more, learning English is like a thing he must do, but for her, learning Mandarin may be just like a habit. But almost things are similar, we all learn English and Mandarin.

Chen (2019) notes that she has a thrilled family. As Chen (2019) shows, this photo is from her family, which is her lovely brother and sister. Chen (2019) thinks her love for her younger siblings is the same. However, according to her brother, Yiji always bought things for her sister and took her out without him. The most common thing her brother says to Chen (2019) is that you do not like me. At this point, Chen (2019) explained that her brother thought the place Yiji took him to was not suitable for him, and the food in the restaurant would also be rejected by his brother. Besides, Chen (2019) gives his younger brother pocket money to go out by himself every time. No matter what Yiji’s brothers think, Chen (2019) thinks having siblings is a good thing and makes her life interesting.

Chen (2019) also describes her family, apart from her naughty and eccentric younger siblings, as well as her parents who like to whisper in her ear. Chen (2019) noticed father’s (n.d.) favorite words in her ear, which is you should study hard. When Chen (2019) plays games, his father (n.d.) gets angry, and he talks to Chen (2019) about the benefits of studying hard. However, Chen (2019) explained that what she hates most is her father (n.d.) making her study hard. On the contrary, Ke, who is Chen’s (2019) mother, is very like to clean the house. Unlike Chen’s father, who oversees her studies every day, Ke’s (n.d.) favorite line to Chen is that she needs to change her eating habits in bed. Chen (2019) mentioned that her favorite thing to do is to lie in bed and do something. For example, one of her favorite things to do in bed is to watch TV while having a snack. According to Chen (2019), it is difficult for her to correct the problem. Whenever Ke (n.d.) sees this scene, she sits on Chen’s (2019) bed and says a bunch of things that are not allowed. Because Ke’s (n.d.) instruction did not work for Chen (2019), she removed the TV from Chen’s room. Therefore, Chen (2019) said she gradually got rid of her love of eating in bed because the TV in the room was taken away by Ke (n.d.). No matter how much Chen’s (2019) parents nag her, she will always love her parents.

In the life of Chen (2019), in addition to family, friends and toys are equally important. When Chen (2019) was still in elementary school, there was a famous cartoon which was called “MashiMaro”. Many people have heard this name think it might be an animated cartoon about cotton candy; however, this is not the case. Mainly the protagonist in the cartoon is a white rabbit, like a cotton candy. Therefore, Chen (2019) liked this lively rabbit at that time. According to Ji (2019), when Yiji asked her mother to buy her a rabbit doll, her mother asked Yiji to do housework to earn money to buy rabbits. Finally, Yiji bought a rabbit doll for a month of housework at home. For Chen (2019), the meaning of this rabbit doll is significant, because she does not like to do housework, she insisted. Chen (2019) describes that this rabbit doll has been accompanying her on her bed since she bought it. Chen has a good friend who has been friends for 8 years. Cai (2019) describes Yiji as a laughing person. She has never seen Yiji lose her smile face. Cai (2019) explained that it may be because Yiji’s smile has infected her so that their friendship is so good. They can share their little secrets together, or they can travel to various places. Of course, they can help each other to solve various problems (Chen, 2019). Chen and Cai (2019) both like to eat a variety of food; their favorite thing is to discuss which restaurant food is best to eat which one It is the most unpalatable. Chen (2019) firmly believes that her friendship with Cai will continue.

The biggest achievement for Chen (2019) is being able to live independently. Before she came to the United States, she spent most of time with her parents. There are many benefits to live with her parents, she doesn’t need to think about anything, and she doesn’t have to worry about your life needs. However, this has led to her not living independently (Chen, 2019). When Chen (2019) left her parents to live independently, she found that everything had changed. In the first month of the United States, Chen was not used to eating American food, but he did not cook. So, in that month she replaced the dinner with instant noodles. Chen (2019) said that eating a month of instant noodles made her feel sick, and she decided to learn how to cook. When Chen (2019) recalled her first cooking experience, she felt ridiculous. She forgot to open the pumping unit and caused the alarm in her room to ring (Chen, 2019). However, the good thing is that Chen began to like the process of cooking, and also liked to study various recipes. Although she is still worried about the alarm sounding again when cooking. When Ke (2019) tasted Yiji’s meal, she felt that her daughter had grown up and they couldn’t worry that Yiji couldn’t take care of herself. For Chen (2019), the biggest failure is also that she can’t live independently. It needs to be maintained by eating instant noodles for one month. She believes that if she is not lazy and learns how to cook with her mother, then she can live a better life without worrying her parents. Also, Chen (2019) believes that learning to cook is a small achievement, but it is actually a big deal. She believes that if she doesn’t cook outside, she needs to spend a lot of money to order food, which will make her body unhealthy. Now, Chen (2019) not only learned how to cook, but also began to cook for the people around him. She thinks this is a very happy thing.

When Chen (2019) studied at Penn State University, there was one thing that made her feel warm. “When she and her friend hit the black bear, she felt very nervous. Because she had never met this thing. However, many Americans stopped the car and asked her if she was injured, helping her. Called the police. This made her feel very warm” (Alkhajah, 2019). This made Chen (2019) feel very moved. When she was not in her own country, there were so many people to help her.

Chen (2019) said that it was felt when she first studied English; however, Wu (2019) described his friends as feeling very happy and passionate when they were learning the language. Also, learning a language can bring more fun to life (Henderson, 2019). In Chen (2019)’s life, English really entered her life when she came to the United States to study. At the same time, she became a multilingual. Chen (2019) believes that the identity of a multilingual person makes her feel a little inconvenient. For example, when a family travels to the United States, Chen (2019) needs to act as a tour guide and also translates to her family. Sometimes speaking more English, she also forgot some of her first language (Chen, 2019). While, Chen (2019) also believes that learning another language will allow her to learn different knowledge.
