To begin my first formal blog, I choose to start a topic that analyzes someone’s professional blog. By days’ research, I decided to analyze Jason’s Computer Science Blog. In my personal opinion, his blog is very significant for people who are interest in entering the computer science field.
Jason’s Computer Science Blog was created by Jason Ernst. Before we talk about his blog, let me share some information about this young engineer. “Jason is a 28 year old doctoral candidate at the University of Guelph in Ontario, Canada. He is currently completing his dissertation in Applied Computing, specializing in heterogeneous wireless networks.” Jason was not only a good student, but also involved in many software design competitions, writing and publishing in computer science journals and conferences. In 2014, Jason came up with an idea called “Red Tree Robotics” with Tom Hummel and Mike Stachowsky, and won $8000 for it. In the same year, Jason won the “CODE hackathon top prize” and “fan favorite prize” for app development with Carlos Saavedra. Also, he has over 20 publications in different areas. Overall, even though he made the blog informally, his solid professional background and credibility made his blog more knowledgeable, and authoritative then others.
Jason’s Computer Science Blog tends to “informally record some of his research, projects and some tutorials.” In his blog, you could find many constructive tutorials and articles about computer science field. For me, his tutorial of “Tutorial: Install ns-3 in Windows 7 using cygwin” is one of my favorite.
If you read his blog, you can tell that he is really serious and responsible for his work. During his tutorial, he would show you how to make the program work step by step, by posting his pseudo code, and the screenshots of the output in different progress. Sometimes, he would also post some other online sources. Typically, they are some existing examples of code like Oracle Documentation. At the end of tutorial, he would summarize what kind of errors you may expect, and his solution for the corresponding error. His words are so humble, intelligible, and sometimes a little bit hilarious. Even if you are new to this field, you may easily get the point from his tutorial. Instead of making a fantastic blog, the style of his blog is very simple and neat. This would make people easier to find the right information. So, if you want to learn more of the computer science field. Jason’s Computer Science Blog would be the right place to be.
His blog gives me lots of ideas. Just like I said, I’m standing upon the shoulders of giants. Wish I could make a great and helpful blog like Jason’s.
