altNevelson Fabrication | Pac Man City
The fabrication of my altNevelson project turned out very well. I was able to scale my project perfectly, and I can into no problems when I was cutting. The hardest part, in my opinion, was using the CNC router software. The interface felt outdated and complicated. Despite the hardships, I was able to successfully cut the foam into a respectable piece of artwork.
altNevelson Final | Pac Man City
I created my digital model of my altNevelson project by creating a box, and cutting into the box. However, I did not use this approach with the houses on top of the roadway. I extruded these up, as I found this to be easier. I purposely made the houses long and wide to take up lots of room, in order to achieve the best CNC cut. I also added a pac man ghost house, and a pac man “head” house. I thought that this would add more character the the theme of the project. Overall, I found the most challenging aspect of the project being designing a shape that would work well with the CNC router. I believe that I created a good CNC router shape.
altNevelson Iteration
Currently, I have made my styrofoam base that my project will be placed in, and I made a cutout of the road and the pac man shape in the road. The road has a polynomial shape as the the road is supposed to change shape and entry point, as per the group plan. The layer where the houses are will not be made from cutting into the foam, but I will make the buildings from extruding them to a height of 2 inches.
altNevelson Concept
Originally, our group created the idea of forming a pack man themed city plan, featuring roads lined with houses, and mac man characters indie the streets.
As a revision from our first sketch, our group had so make a few changes to more closely fallow the requirements of the project to ensure that our groups work will complement the rest of the class. This post only features dimensions changes.
The plan above features the most recent and final revision of our group plan. In order to ensure that our project finishes quickly, we made our foam cut outs 6 by 6. the road entries will be .75 inches wide when joining other classmates foam sections, but 2 inches wide when joining other group members projects. the tops of our buildings will be 2 inches tall, the base of the buildings (grass) will be 1.25 inches tall, the road bed will be 1.25 inches tall, and all road cutouts of pack man objects will be 1 inch high, or one inch deep.
