When I think of my passions, a few things come to mind. I love music, talking to people, and learning new things. Music is what I plan to do as a career which involves talking to people and learning. So, I guess they are interconnected in one way or another.
Anyway, I’ve done some reflecting about what my passion topic should be. I’ve thought about consuming a new TED talk each week and then reflecting on it in my blog. This could be so cool to share valuable information and learn about new perspectives.
Another idea I have is a blog about barbershop music. I could speak about what constitutes the barbershop style and also give really cool examples and comparisons between regular songs, and then how they’d sound in the style. I have to sit with this idea more.
I could also talk about vocal pedagogy, but that’s super nerdy and I think a lot of people would fall asleep reading it. Pedagogy is basically the study of how you would teach something to someone else. I would dive into the anatomy of the voice and how sound is produced. I know little about it, so it would be a good opportunity to get ahead on something for my career.
I’m really not sure what I want to do. The TED talk seems to be the most receptive choice. We shall see!
I’m really intrigued by the TED Talk idea and think it could be really versatile–there are literally Ted Talks on everything and you’ll never run out of ideas and niche topics to cover. You could do some on music and even include one on vocal pedagogy, so I think that idea gives you a wider range of potential blog posts. Also though, the barbershop music idea is something I’ve never really heard anyone talk about which could be super creative and interesting for people to read about!
Hey John.
All of your passion blog ideas are very creative and unique! I think you’d be making a good choice picking any of them. I think it would be really interesting to hear more about barbershop music because it gives you an opportunity to speak about something you are clearly passionate about while being very informative and most likely new and foreign for most of your readers, me included.

Hi John,
I think these are all really creative ideas and I probably never would have thought of these. I think the TED talk idea has a lot of promise. I know people who have changed their life after watching one TED talk. I think if you really keep an open mind when watching one, it could really resonate with you. I was wondering what barbershop music is. Is it just the music they play at barbers? Pedagogy sounds cool too, how come you know so much about it? Great work!
