God’s Love
Wow! We are almost through the first semester! Only one more passion blog, then we get started on our last project of the year. Also, tis’ the season of snow and the best holiday of all year….THANKSGIVING (just kidding) CHRISTMAS!! I know that I am ready for it, are you? Christmas is usually a fun time for everyone; however, sometimes we lose joy when we see happy couples and matching pajamas. We think that we failed since we had all the time in the year to find that “special” person but another lonely year is looking guaranteed. That emotion was my thought process when Christmas time would come around. In fact, in such desperation, I would scramble and attempt to find one woman than could show me the love that I thought was required for the holidays. This attempt would always lead to insecurities since I felt that I would never find love. But there was a love that I had been ignoring. This was the love of God.
In life, we all need some form of love to keep us going and keep us motivated. The perfect type of love is described in the Bible. 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 reads, “Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.”
If our g
oal is to find this form of love in someone, we will always come up empty-handed. But when we seek this love from God, we will receive an overflow. God meets all aspects of love described in that scripture. First, God is always patient with us no matter what. We have all had those times when we decided to be rebellious and shy away from God. Still, he stays with us and waits for us to come back to Him. Second, God does not boast His power. Realistically, God could shove in our face that He has all power. He could put us in situations just because He can, but he does not. Third, God also does not delight in our evil or misfortune. He does not laugh when we stumble or fall; instead, He picks us up and brushes us off. Lastly, God does not keep a record of our wrongs. We see this many times in life. I have done it as well. If a person would mess up or “do me dirty,” I would consciously think, “I will remember that,” and I would either use that past feeling as ammo against them or as a reason to find the bad in the good that they do. God is the exact opposite. God will wipe our sins when we acknowledge them. God does not utilize our mistakes to condemn us; He uses them as ways to build us up.
So I will leave you with this. If you already have someone you love, think you like someone, or are looking, make sure you first understand God’s love for you. Also, use that scripture as a checklist to evaluate love.
I absolutely agree that other people can not love us like God. People are not perfect, so they can not love us as He can. Searching for love in God and not others is what we need to do as Christians.
