FYS #5

This weekend was the start of training camp for football. The players, coaches, and staff all reported last Friday and we got to work. On Friday I went in at two in the afternoon and it was very intense. I went after class, but people were there since seven o’clock in the morning.  When I got there we put out the practice clothes and got everyone ready for practice. Then we went over our assignments for the practice. I did not realize how exact the practice is, for example, Friday practice started at 4:42 which was exactly how the scheduled said. Everything was planned out to the minute which was a lot to take in at first. We began going over assignments and what we had to set up for every segment. There are twenty-four different segments and there are nine different positions so there is a lot to set up for every segment. I am working with the linebackers so I am helping the linebackers coach set up all the drills and assist him in running the drills. We practiced for around four hours and it was a great learning experience. It was intense and I made a few mistakes, but I learned a lot like never make the same mistake twice and if you’re going to make a mistake do it fast. Coach Franklin talked to the freshman managers and said that it was going to take a lot of work for us get to know how the practice works and he was very encouraging while talking to us about messing up. Then after practice, we cleaned up the field and had a few meetings then we did the laundry. I left the first day of camp at eleven o’clock at night and it was a great day and I learned a lot. Doing this will be a lot of work, but I am up for the challenge.
