FYS #2 Real Time Chat

On Wednesday, July 24 I met with my communications professor, Profesor Nichols. I scheduled a meeting with her for 8:30 in the morning before my English 15 class. I met with because she is very relaxed and interesting as a person, but in class, she is motivated and determined.

We started talking about where I was from and where I went to high school. I told her I was from right outside Philadelphia and that I went to Malvern Preparatory School. She asked questions like what the diversity was like there and how the classes were. We kept discussing the fact that my high school was all boys and how I thought it was a great environment to learn. We then talked about teachers and how a lot of my teachers were female even at an all-boys high school. We also talked about diversity and how my school was predominantly white. She found my school interesting, but overall it was a great school and a great learning environment.

Next, we discussed my activities here at Penn State. We talked about how I am a manager for the Penn State Football team. I told her that I am working around thirty hours a week in the summer and sometimes up to fifty during the fall. She thought that was great and she shared stories of football players that she taught and knew just around campus. She shared some of her wisdom and gave me some tips on how to stay on top of my schoolwork, have time for my job and social life. She shared many personal stories of knowing people who could not do it all so they had to either quit or change everything that they were doing.

Lastly, we discussed what I want to do at Penn State academically. I said I did not know what I really wanted to study and she said that was ok and it will just take time. She said to try many things because once you know you know.

My conversation with her was a lot of fun and she did help me ease up a bit on the whole college thing which I appreciate. She was very open, nice, and funny and I am very thankful for our conversation.
