Netflix Hosting Virtual Global Fan Event on September 24th

This week Netflix is hosting its second annual free virtual fan convention called “Tudum.” Which seems like a random name at first but true Netflix watchers know its named after the signature sound effect heard right before the intros of all your favorite shows. Tudum is a global event that will be available to streamers in 29 different languages. The event is occurring on September 24th and will be 24 hours long and completely free to those with a Netflix subscription.

Netflix Tudum 2022: Full Showcase Schedule and What to Expect – What’s on Netflix (whats-on-netflix.com)

The 2022 Tudum will offer the streaming services  fans an “exciting day of exclusive news, never-before-seen footage, trailers, and first looks, as well as interviews with Netflix’s biggest stars and creators” (Netflix). Viewers can expect to learn the release dates of their favorite shows new seasons.  Popular show examples include but are not limited to The Outerbanks season 3, Bridgerton season 3, Emily in Paris season 3, You season 4, Money Heist season 6, Squid games season 2, and the fifth and final season of Stranger Things.

Additionally, fans will get to hear about and see sneak peaks of new upcoming shows and movies that Netflix is working on. Many of these projects feature exciting actors and actresses such as Reese Witherspoon, Ashton Kutcher, Chris Hemsworth, Gal Gadot, Noah Centineo, James Marsden, Kerry Washington, and Jamie Fox. Tudum will be an exciting event for Netflix fans who have been long awaiting information on when their favorite shows will return and for those who just want to see what new shows and movies to look out for this year.

I think Tudum is an excellent public relations tactic for Netflix as it has really given fans something to look forward to and discuss. I haven’t seen another streaming platform do something like this and I think its a great way to build a community of watchers. I have already seen several TikTok’s of creators talking about their excitement for Tudum and saying they are going to go live during it to discuss and react with others who attend the virtual event.

Netflix has made something that used to be mundane into an event that will generate media coverage, user generated content, and overall publicity in general. Recently, Netflix announced some changes that people were not happy about like rises in subscription fees and I think this event is a good way for them to distract people from complaining and shift their focus into why they will want to maintain their subscriptions because so many great additions are coming soon. Users will be more inclined to keep the service knowing their will be plenty of content to keep them hooked within the next few months.

As an avid Netflix watcher and Tv show and movie watcher in general this event really excites me and I cant wait to see trailers, hear about my favorite shows return dates, and watch my favorite characters be interviewed and share intel . Overall I think this was a very good promotional idea for Netflix and I look forward to seeing how it turns out and what fans will have to say.
