Yesterday, September 28th Hailey Bieber went on the hit podcast “Call Her Daddy” hosted by Alex Cooper and discussed rumors and hate that she has received regarding the fact that she stole her now husband from actress and singer Selena Gomez.
Hailey Bieber Accused of Damage Control Ahead of Selena Gomez Documentary (msn.com)
Hailey is a model and recent entrepreneur of her new business Rhode Skincare. However, she is most know for being the daughter of actor and director, Stephen Baldwin and the wife of mega popstar and heart throb, Justin Bieber. Justin Bieber has a large fan base made up of predominantly teenage girls or “Beliebers”. However, not only does he have a strong fan base on his own, he and his ex girlfriend Selena Gomez accumulated a lot of fans together who desperately want the two to end up together.
Selena and Justin were together on and off from 2010 to 2018. Fans obsessed over thier relationship and even made them a ship name of “jelena.” So, when the infamous couple broke things off for real and Hailey and Justin were married in only a matter of months afterward there was a lot of speculation that Justin was seeing both women at the same time and that Hailey stole him from Selena.
Over the years Hailey has received a lot of hate from Jelena fans but never addressed it. In this weeks Call Her Daddy episode she broke her silence and explained her truth which had many people wondering why? I personally feel like that’s a fair question. Why after 4 years of marriage would you decide to speak on an issue that now seems irrelevant? It is believed by many that Hailey spoke about this in attempt to do preventative damage control before Selena Gomez’s documentary “My Mind and Me” comes out on November.
Many of Selena’s songs and eight years of her life were wrapped up in her relationship with Just Bieber. So, many fans believe their breakup is a topic she will be covering in her documentary. As a result, it seems possible that Hailey Bieber decided to clear her reputation and share her truth before audiences got the chance to hear Selena’s side of things. This reasoning would make sense as to why Hailey would discuss an issue that everybody including Selena has seemed to move on from.
This piece of pop culture correlates with the course because a big part of public relations is crisis management and strategic planning. When you’re as famous as Selena, Justin, and Hailey are your reputation is your brand and something that needs to be managed. Hailey was being tactical by beating Selena to the punch and clearing up her image before people make judgments off of the “My Mind and Me” documentary. That being said, I don’t know if I would have advised her to do this interview if I was her manager. I would have told her to continue ignoring the topic and wait to see if Selena even discusses her in the documentary. This is because I believe that she now has made herself look more guilty and tacky by bringing up the issue in advance and it seems like many took to Twitter to say just that.
