This week’s TV show is my most modern and recent one yet: Euphoria. This show is still ongoing, yet its new season has been pushed back more and more, so who knows when it’ll come out with more episodes. When Euphoria first came out, it was insanely popular and continued growing its viewers and influence. It first came out in June of 2019, the summer before my freshman year of high school. Although, I didn’t watch it at all until season 2 was about to come out. Season 2 came out in January 2022, which is a huge gap in between seasons, which just shows even more how long it will take for season 3 to come out.
Euphoria has an insane cast list, with Zendaya being the main character, alongside Jacob Elordi and the guy who played Mark Sloan on Grey’s Anatomy. As someone who watched Zendaya on Shake it Up as a child, watching her play Rue, a drug addict with horrible coping mechanisms, was jarring at first. I think Zendaya has always been a great actor and she does a really good job in Euphoria as playing a character you sympathize with but also don’t necessarily like at all times.
The first season of Euphoria was so interesting and fun to watch for the aesthetic it created, as well as the soundtrack. The soundtrack of Euphoria was entirely produced by Labrinth, and is such a good album to listen to on its own. The songs added to the show and fit in so well, and made Euphoria its own genre in a way. Euphoria-inspired makeup and outfits were also all over TikTok when the first season came out, with millions using the songs and audios from the first season of the show. I remember right before the second season came out, all of my friends were doing a rewatch of the first season, so I decided to join them and was hooked just like everyone else.
I have such good memories of what everyone would call “Euphoria Sundays”. Euphoria season 2 aired in the winter of my junior year on late Sunday nights, maybe around 9 or 10 pm. Everyone would stay up that night to watch then talk about the episodes the next day. A lot of TV shows get released all at once now, especially with streaming services, so it was very exciting to have to wait and watch everything individually. I think this type of release allows people to actually focus on each episode and the individual parts of the story. I loved coming home from my recreational basketball team practices to watch Euphoria before bed.
In my opinion, I really liked season 2 and the characters it featured more, including Angus Cloud’s character of Fezco. When Angus Cloud died this summer, I was so upset because he was probably one of my favorite actors in the show and played my favorite character. I have no idea where the next season of Euphoria will go, if it ever gets made. At this rate, I’ll be out of college before they release the next season. I’ll definitely watch the next season, but I have no idea how the story will be without his character due to the cliffhanger of last season. However, Euphoria does stand as an addicting and exciting show with a really good soundtrack.
RIP Angus. Nice work! Great semester of blogging!
