My first idea for a paradigm shift is the evolution of the feminism movement. The specific aspect I would describe would be how feminism emerged and attempted to liken women to men to prove their equality (women entering the workforce, We Can Do It poster) to the current intersectional view of feminism that scratches the old feminism that only applied to white women. The current wave of feminism calls attention to all female identifying individuals and goes deeper into what equality truly looks like, rather than a surface level view of “women are just as good as men.”By analyzing this, it will reveal how society has changed its view on feminism as more women and men weigh in on it in a modern sense.
A second paradigm shift idea would be the change from personal hand work to broader mass production in America, in the Industrial Revolution. I’m not sure exactly how I would go about writing about this topic, but it does represent an important paradigm shift in American culture. With the Industrial Revolution, the way people went to work changed as the whole job market changed with it. The idea of hard work being a physical measure changed, as machines took over from manual small level work. Families entered children into the workforce younger and younger, and familial dynamics changed alongside society.
A third idea I have, which is the least fully determined, would be the shift of society organizations. Specifically, from ancient kingdoms and monarchies to a more westernized view of democracy and citizen government. I’d have to do a lot more research into how this shift began and the specific history behind it, but I think I’d be able to find a lot of relevant information easily. True monarchies are not found nearly as frequently as in the Middle Ages, and this shift can likely be traced to the spread of ideas and religious beliefs worldwide.
Great work Jessica!
