In a project for my highway design class, I was tasked with finding an efficient and cost effective way to establish a highway which could connect two highways that ran through the northeast of Pennsylvania. For those who do not know, northeast PA is known for its Pocono Mountains along with sprawling woods, which provided a significant challenge, both economically as well as logistically. In this project, I first designed a 2 lane highway using Civil 3D which fulfilled all of the PennDOT requirements for grading as well as looking at the environmental impact of the project, pricing out the project, and taking into account for the total crashes caused per year.
