As holiday lights go up and the cold weather sets in, it becomes apparent that the year is coming to the end. People begin to meet up with family and friends for the holidays and some people try to finish up their goals that they had in the past year. Others may even already be planning their new resolutions for the new year. However, as 2015 comes to an end, I like to stop and think about all the new and popular music that has been released and played on all types of media. In this blog post, I’m going to share some of the most popular songs that were released. For those who are not familiar with the pop music genre, the following video is a cover of many of the hit songs of this year, which I will be discussing.
The first song in this video that was very popular this year is Adele’s song “Hello.” Released on October 23rd, this song was spread across the music world in less than a week. During this time, it became the number one song in 28 different countries and was at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 list. “Hello” features a calm and mysterious type feeling in the verses as it builds up into a strong and emotional chorus.
The next song is “Hotline Bling” by the famous Canadian rapper Drake. This song which was released on July 31st as a single and reached number two on the Billboard Hot 100 list. Although it reached number two on that list, it did not become very popular and trending until the music video was released in October. The music video featured Drake doing a unique dance that no one has seen before. Popularity of the song increased tremendously as people all over the internet made edited pictures that joked about his dancing. Some of these pictures include the following.
Another popular song from this year is “Trap Queen” by Fetty Wap. This song is played continuously over and over everyday and you cannot turn on the radio without finding this song on at least one station. This song was a top ten hit on Billboard Hot 100 eventually reaching the second spot. Fetty Wap has performed this song at the 2015 MTV Movie Awards, The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Nick Cannon Presents Wild ‘n Out and the BET Awards 2015. It was so well received by the music industry that it received two nominations at the 58th Grammy Awards: Best Rap Song and Best Rap Performance.
The last song I will be discussing is “Sorry” by Justin Beiber. Released on October 23rd, it reached number two on Canadian Hot 100 list as one of the songs on his new album, Purpose. Outside Canada, “Sorry” was number one in eight countries and reached the top ten in nineteen countries, including Australia, Germany, and the United States. The song featured a solid snare and bass beat along with a catchy rhythm which is why it became so popular.
This year has been full of great new music and one blog post does not give credit to the success that music artists have had this year. I look forward to next year and the new music that comes with it.
