The AFC East has long been ruled by one team, the New England Patriots. Last year we thought we had a changing of the guard, with the Buffalo Bills rising to power and blowing the Patriots out of the water in the AFC wild card. This year, however, there is a tight race between all 4 teams: The Buffalo Bills, New England Patriots, Miami Dolphins, and the New York Jets. All 4 teams are within one game of each other through 9 weeks of the NFL season. The Super Bowl favorite Bills were expected to run away with the division coming into the season. With arguably the most complete team in the NFL, the Bills were a sexy pre-season championship pick. During the season however, they would fall to their rivals down south, the Miami Dolphins. The Dolphins were going all in as well, trading for superstar wide receiver Tyreek Hill to pair with second year standout Jaylen Waddle. Hill had chosen to go to the Dolphins over another contender in the division, that team being the New York Jets. The Jets had looked to be in the midst of a promising rebuild. However, they have come out firing on all cylinders. The Jets look to have one of the top defenses in the National Football League, starting the year 6-3 with a victory over both the Buffalo Bills and Miami Dolphins. The Jets are currently 2-1 in the division, with that one loss coming against one of the greatest coaches of all time, Bill Belichick and the New England Patriots. Though they are currently last in the division, you can never truly count out New England. Sitting at 5-4, the Patriots have always been a second half team and are looking to make a push for a playoff spot down the stretch. Although I am not a Jets fan, I grew up in New York, so I am pulling for them to win their pivotal matchup against the Patriots this coming Sunday. If the Jets win, they lead the division with a 7-3 record along with the number 2 seed in the AFC playoff race. If they lose, however, the Jets fall to the 6 seed in the AFC playoff race and are at the bottom of the division. This is sure to be a tight race in the AFC East throughout the remaining weeks in the season. As everything is in the NFL, it will be full of twists and turns, and will surely be exciting down to the last game. If the NFL has taught me anything this year, it is to expect the unexpected.
John, I think it is great how passionate you are about sports. Your analysis of everything is something that I am so jealous of your ability to do. I do not know much about football, but as I am from Philly, I hope the Eagles make it to the super bowl. Great Job!
Your blogs about sports are incredibly amazing! Although I am not the biggest football fan, the way your structure your blogs has left me rooting for The Jets to win! I can imagine how expecting the unexpected be a difficult thing to pull off, but all you can do is keep rooting for you team and hope for the best.
As a dolphins fan, I appreciate this post! I’ll admit I haven’t been the best at keeping up with them since coming to school, so this was a helpful read to get my up to speed! Once again great job, it’s clear how passionate you are about sports!
