One of the biggest issues in todays age that is effecting a large portion of the world is world hunger. Hundreds of millions of people are effected by world hunger every day, and those numbers are continuing to rise. In third world countries, it is very difficult for people to access food, and this is for a number of reasons. On November 9th, 2021, the United States of America voted against a United Nations committee’s draft that would make food a human right. This topic is directly related with one of the 17 sustainable development goals, which is world hunger. The majority of the world was outraged when 180 countries voted to make food a human right, and America was one of two countries to vote no. Much of the world is starving right now and people believe that America cooperating with the United Nations is the key to ending it. There were many reasons why the US voted no, and one of them was international pesticide laws. International health and food safety standards are guide states to help prevent consumers from pesticides, but the only way would we would be able to mass produce food for the world would be to bring pesticides into play. There are also many other very complicated reasons for why the United States voted no, these reasons include trade-related issues, language in the agreement, and the use of agricultural innovation. Overall, world hunger will continue to be a problem in our world for a very long time. Although there are ways that we can help reduce world hunger, we will never be able to solve the problem.
