Fiction

I began writing fiction a few years ago, mid-career, almost as a form of therapy. I wanted to rediscover what it was like to write purely for the fun of it, not because I needed more publications for tenure.

Writing short stories gave me a lot of joy.

Since then, I’ve had some success publishing in literary magazines, ones I greatly admire. My first collection of short stories, All We Could Have Been and More (Livingston , 2023), received the Tartt Fiction Award. Kirkus Reviews praised it as a “collection of short but memorable narratives that rupture the illusion of personhood,” with tales that “range from dark surrealism to offbeat comedy” and prose that is “uniformly tight and clever.”

For my information on my book, please see All We Could Have Been and More page.

Below you’ll find links to stories that have appeared in various print and online literary magazines.  Enjoy!
