Don’t Worry, Be Happy :)

By far, the saddest part about going to college for me was having to say goodbye to my best friends that I have grown up with my entire life including my sister who is the same age as me. It is psychologically proven that satisfactory, close relationships are the key to human happiness, and I was so afraid I would be lonely here… NOT a healthie way to live!

Luckily, that has not been the case for me most of the time, but if I ever am, I resort to some activities to immediately enhance my mood, and that is what this final blog will be about. It’s common to feel sad or annoyed, especially when transitioning to a whole different life essentially, but I have found that these five things can uplift me when I am down.

  1. Work out: I think exercise is so cathartic. Working out to me is not just going to the gym; it also includes going outside and getting fresh air or taking a walk or going for a leisurely jog. It makes me feel so good about myself and motivates me to get stuff done and not feel down.
  2. Shop: Although probably not the best habit to get into, for my bank account feels the pain instead, shopping is great because you can look forward to wearing or using what you just bought. New stimuli in my life has always kept me happy and shopping is the fastest way to entertain this. In State College, online shopping works the best for me since there are not too many stores that I regularly buy from downtown. (It also makes me happy when I get to look forward to an email from Eliving saying I have a new package :))
  3. Watch TV: Watching TV or movies that I like is something to keep me busy and my mind off being sad or lonely. With all the streaming services available and Xfinity On Campus to watch live TV on my computer or phone, it is difficult not to find something interesting. I never liked watching series until I got to college, but now they are nice because it’s something to look forward to when I have down time.
  4. Clean and organize: Living in such a small and confined area definitely took me a while to get used to. When I clean and organize it though, I feel a sense of relief and accomplishment. I also love to redecorate and rearrange my room because it’s exciting to walk in and see something different after a while. I get inspired by interior designers or shows on HGTV and Netflix mainly.

I hope these ideas of things to do are helpful for when you are feeling sad, upset, irritated, bored etc. There are times when I feel these things, but I always try to do something about it. Thanks for reading my blog this semester! Never be afraid to reach out to me for something (jpg5777@psu.edu). Stay Healthie!!!!
