Research

Please view my CV here. My research is at the intersection of computer science education and human computer interaction with hints of cognitive science, social psychology and the learning sciences. I like my work to be practical but grounded in theoretical underpinnings. I also like to employ mixed methodologies that can wholly support and investigate a research problem.

As a result of the flexibility and application of HCI as a discipline, I am able to adjust to different research problems and areas. My internship saw my first look into the aerospace community by conducting fast-paced research projects in internal and external capacities at Honeywell Aerospace’s R&D division. I was able to apply these methods through a human factors approach focused on product and delivery.

I enjoy teaching, service, and research.

Education and outreach are important to me. Given my background, coming from a public school system in NYC, being of Hispanic descent, and identifying as a sexual minority, it became imperative to move forward in life by using education as a vehicle. In academia, my research has focused on broadening minority and women participation in computing as well as the student and teacher perspectives in the classroom, the technological benefits or obstructions that affect those groups.

Last but not least, I have an affinity for the web. In college, I was trained as a web developer and usability tester. Then, my interest in human-computer interaction became a natural step forward and eventually my move to the research side of things. I love creating mockups and prototypes of tool designs. I enjoy testing and evaluating functionality in several contexts. When designing web applications or systems, one must consider the actions of users. I very much focus on eliciting reaction and feedback from the user to better improve a design. I enjoy debugging front-end languages like HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. I have dabbled in Python, R, Angular, Django, C#, PHP and many more languages.

I feel that my experiences have definitely overlapped and led a thread to create a unique narrative. I’d love an opportunity that blends my love of teaching, service, and research into one.
