This I Believe:
My first idea that I have for the This I Believe podcast is to discuss my opinions behind the evolution of social media. As teenagers, this topic hits very close to home for most, if not all, of us. While all social media can be used in positive ways, and seeing as we even wrote about our favorite types of social media when we applied here, there are plenty of good things to be said about social media. In my podcast, I would aim to address the pros and cons of social media as a whole and address specific pros and cons as they relate to one or a few popular apps such as Instagram, Twitter, and maybe YouTube.
My second idea for the This I Believe podcast is to talk about the importance of not taking yourself too seriously. Of course there are times to be serious, like when we all applied to college, but not all aspects of life need to be taken seriously. What I would mostly talk about is how giving yourself a break from over-stressing, especially during some sightly meaningful things such as school work, leads to an overall better learning experience. Without getting into this topic too much right now as I try to explain my idea, I would talk about how being able to stay relaxed and not stressing yourself out over less-important tasks/responsibilities leads to a happier, more fun, and even easier approach to everything that you have to do, in and out of school.
Civic Issues Blog:
The first topic I’m considering to write about in the civic issues blog is education. From government funding to the structure of our school system, American schools are very different than the rest of the developed world, and I’m not convinced that the differences are for the best. As a student who will most likely never experience a significant change in the structure of the American schooling systems first-hand, I still believe that by talking about its shortcomings is a valuable use of time that, maybe, can translate into a worthwhile change in the future.
The second topic I am considering is politics. While I do not like to get wrapped up in politics, we are living in a unique time in American political history. As such, it is important for all of us, no matter what political affiliation we hold (duh), to stay in touch with current events. I would pick politics to force myself to learn more about the current political climate and how it compares to other countries like those in the EU.
I really find your second This I Believe Topics about not taking ones self too seriously to be very interesting. I strongly agree with it and I see it expressed in how you live your day to day life. I would be curious to hear your podcast and see how you could get the importance across to those who take life very seriously. Best of luck.
These ideas are very interesting! I really like the podcast idea focusing on the importance of not taking yourself too seriously. In today’s society, we try to be our best and perfect self at all times when it is still important to be able to laugh at yourself and learn from mistakes. I think your civic issues blog will also be interesting as both education and politics are very hotly debated topics today.
I think your social media topic would be extremely interesting especially because of the major influence social media has on society today. From young to old social media is starting to shape beliefs, expectations, and where we spend our free time. I think an analysis on the benefits and harm social media has would be interesting and good for many people in our generation to learn perspective. I also enjoyed all of your other ideas and look forward to reading/listening to your work.
