To Health Care or To Not Health Care

The debate of having national health care is not one that is new to presidential elections. But this election this is a particularly important issue because of the debate about Obama Care. Obama care is a health system that is universal created by President Barack Obama. Many people are opposed to this form of health care because it is universal, meaning that it provides health care for all Americans. This is a very big debate topic this presidential election because depending on who wins, many things could change when it comes to health care.  Candidates are for the most part either trying to completely get rid of it, or improve it in ways that they feel would improve The United States. I will be covering some of this years presidential candidates views on the debate of health care.

First I will begin with Bernie Sanders view. Bernie Sanders has a plan that he believes will work best for the United States. His plan involved having a universal health care system so that every American will have the benefit. His plan will cover every spectrum of health care from inpatient care to outpatient care and everything else. The part that sticks out to me the most about Bernie’s plan is that he intends to also extend this universal health care to mental health care as well. I feel as though this is a very important issue that we are beginning to give the attention that it not only deserves, but desperately needs as well.  Basically Bernie’s plan will not only provide for universal health care, but it will also make it very easy to receive it.

Another Democratic candidate, Hillary Clinton, has similar ideas as Bernie Sanders but she doesn’t fully agree with all his ideas. Some things that Hillary plans to do include: defending the Affordable Care Act, lower out-of-pocket costs, reduce the cost of prescription drugs, and transform our health care system to reward value and quality. Her plan does not include universal health care for Americans but she too wants to make it easier for Americans to get health care. download (6)Republican candidate Donald Trump wants to completely repeal Obama Care. He feels as though in order to have a well working health care system for America, congress must do many things. Some of these things include modifying existing law that inhibits the sale of health insurance across state lines, allow individuals to use Health Savings Accounts, block-grant Medicaid to the states, and remove barriers to entry into free markets for drug providers that offer safe and cheaper products.

John Kasich believes that Obama care needs to be repealed as well. He believes that affordable health care is an important priority but says that Obama care has failed at doing that. John Kasich says that Obama care has increased health care prices by 80% which is the opposite of what it intended to do. In order to improve our health care system, John Kasich plans on creating a better primary care structure so that people stay healthier. He wants to use the same system that many health care providers are using in Ohio now.

Climate Change

In this weeks blog post, I will be sharing and discussing with you the issue of climate change on our earth, and different presidential candidates views on this particular issue.

First, I will begin with discussing Donald Trump’s view on the issue of climate change. Just to be subtle, Donald Trump believes that climate change is a hoax and would consider dismantling the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) if elected president. In 2012, Donald Trump sent out a tweet stating that he believed that the concept of climate change and global warming was an idea created by the Chinese government in an attempt to make U.S. manufacturing non-competitive. He also has stated before that he does indeed believe in change, but he also “believes in weather” and does not think that global warming is real nor an issue that should be addressed not only in the near future, but ever. His entire argument is based off of the false precept that “people in the 1920’s thought that the earth was cooling. They believed in global cooling.” This has been completely denied and is false, people in the 1920’s did not truly believe that the earth was cooling; but good try, Trump.

Another popular Republican candidate is John Kasich. Although he is in the same political party as Donald Trump, his views on climate change and global warming differ from those of Mr. Trump. John Kasich does indeed believe that climate change is an issue that should be addressed. Although these are his views, he believes that the Environmental Protection Agency should not be the ones in charge of regulating emissions. John Kasich believes that each particular state and private companies should work to contain carbon output instead of the Environmental Protection Agency. He stated in an interview that he does indeed believe that humans are responsible for climate change, but just how much we are to blame is uncertain. I feel as though John Kasich would possibly hit on this issue at some point throughout his presidency, but I do not feel as though he would make it a priority.

Next, I will discuss Bernie Sanders view on climate change. Bernie Sanders is an avid believer that climate change is indeed happening and if we do not do something about it now, then this will cause catastrophic events to our earth. Scientific studies show that if we continue damaging our planet at the rate that we are doing so, by the end of this century earth’s average temperature will have increased by 5-10 degrees. Although these numbers do not seem high, they are catastrophic. If the earth’s temperature rises that much, glaciers will melt causing sea levels to rise, putting land below water and causing extreme damage to the entire world. Bernie already has a plan as to how he would deal with climate change and global warming if he becomes president, meaning that this issue would clearly be a priority for Senator Sanders. He believes that the reason we haven’t done anything about the issue thus far is because it fuels many large corporations that have very strong impacts on politics and society, and he believes that that must be stopped immediately.

4/20

Not only does the number 4/20 represent a day in April, it is also a symbolic representation of marijuana. In today’s society, marijuana is something that has become more and more prominent. Although not everyone is in support of making possession and  consumption of marijuana legal, it has become so relevant to society that it is now a topic discussed throughout presidential elections. Throughout this blog post I will be discussing and informing the reader of what sides some of the current presidential candidates take when it comes to the issue of marijuana legalization.

First, we will begin with Donald Trump. This presidential candidate used to be very against legalizing marijuana, but recently he has changed his mind. Donald Trump believes that medical marijuana should be legal for only patients who are indeed very sick and it may be their last option. But when it comes to recreational marijuana, he states that he believes that it should be up to each state to decide whether or not marijuana will be legal in that state. Trump claims he has never touched alcohol, drugs, tobacco, or coffee.

John Kasich is a presidential candidate that I haven’t talked about too much so I decided to include his view on marijuana both medically and recreation-ally. He believes that marijuana should not be legalized in any form because he thinks that legalization would give younger generations “the wrong idea” and incline them to do drugs. He believes that  marijuana is a gateway drug and that everyone should just stay as far away from it as possible. A point that he makes in his argument about not legalizing marijuana is that less kids will smoke if they just hear the words “do not smoke” so he does not believe that legalizing marijuana would lower the amount of people put in jail for marijuana violations; he just believes they would violate them more.

Next, we have Hillary Clinton. Clinton has stated that she supports the use of medical marijuana and also supports further research on possibly positive effects that marijuana can have. She, like Donald Trump, believes that if recreational marijuana is made legal, it should be up to each individual state to make that decision. Clinton is usually pretty liberal when it comes to social issues, but as we can see, when it comes to marijuana she is pretty in the middle.

Finally, I will discuss Bernie Sander’s view on legalizing marijuana. The first point Bernie Sanders makes is that he believes that the United States’ current system on dealing with drugs is failing. He wants to minimize the amount of people that are put in jail due to marijuana violations, and believes that this will be possible if recreational marijuana is legalized. Something else he strongly advocates for is treating addiction to marijuana as a drug addiction rather than punishment by jail time. Bernie, like many other candidates in this presidential election believes that it should be up to the states to opt for full legalization of marijuana.

On the Issues: Immigration

For this blog post, I will be writing on the Civic Issue that is immigration. Not that immigration itself is an issue per say, but the way we oversee it and how to control the immigration going on now is an issue disagreed upon by many politicians.

The two politicians views that I will be talking about in this post are Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton. I chose these two because they are both the candidates that are currently in the lead for their respective parties. rs_634x1024-150616073901-634.Donald-Trump.jl.061615download (6)

First, we will begin with Donald Trump. The only citation that I will be using when referring to Donald Trump is donaldjtrump.com. This is Donald Trump campaigns website where he professionally states his views on all of the issues that we face today as a society. Donald Trump’s view on immigration includes three basic components. First, he states that “a nation with no borders is not a nation at all”. This meaning that he believes that there should be a wall built on the southern border of America, separating Mexico from the United States. He wants to make the Mexican government pay for this wall and believes that it will lower crime rate among the United States. Second he states that “a nation without laws is not a nation at all”. He believes that we should triple the amount of officers that patrol the borders and protect our immigration laws. One solution he proposed is to end birthright citizenship, meaning that all children born in America to illegal immigrants, must be deported. Finally he states that we need more job security for American citizens. He says that the United States is the only country that puts other countries needs in front of our own, and that that needs to change. A proposed solution by Trump is to always hire American workers first. In his campaign he does not specify whether he means natural born citizens, or naturalized citizens or both.

The information I will be citing for Hillary Clinton is from hillaryclinton.com, which is her campaign website. If Hillary becomes president, she plans to pass legislation that will make it easier for humans to be granted citizenship. She disagrees with Donald Trumps plan of ending birthright citizenship, and plans to do everything possible to allow families to stay together. She will support and continue President Obama’s DREAMers program. Although she believes that immigration enforcement is an important issue to be discussed, she plans on doing it in a humane and effective way, deporting first those who pose a violent threat to public safety. She believes that this would allow all immigrants a fair chance to tell their stories. Finally, she plans to promote naturalization of citizenship so families, like mine, can live here in the land of opportunities!

Gun Control

With 2016 being an election year, there are many issues being talked about that can affect the support that candidates get. A very big issue that keeps coming up throughout this entire election process is gun control. Both the Democrat party and Republican have very different views on the aspect. In today’s blog, we will discuss each side and the arguments for each.

I will be talking about 4 Republican candidates views on the issues, and 2 Democratic candidates views on the issues. The Republicans are Donald Trump, Marco Rubio, Jeb Bush, and Ted Cruz; the Democrats are Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders.

First, we will begin with Donald Trump’s views. He is a man who is very against gun control. His beliefs are that gun free zones are “targets for sickos”. By this he means that the mentally unstable are likely to attack throughout areas they know no one will be able to fight back. When discussing gun control, he referred back to the recent shootings in Oregon and stated that had someone around the area had a gun, the outcome would have been different. He believes that guns are not the issue, but that they way we deal with mental health in the country is. He believes that our mental health system is broken, and that it is a problem that politicians have ignored for too long. The solution he proposes is to get people who suffer with mental health off the streets before they can terrorize our communities.

Next, we have Marco Rubio. Republican Marco Rubio is too against gun control laws, because he believes that criminals will ignore the laws made due to the fact that they are criminals. He suggests that in order to have strong people we must have strong values, “and you cannot have strong values without strong families.” Rubio believes that there should not be laws on gun control because the people who break the law are the people committing these mass murders, anyway.

Jeb Bush resides in Florida, and uses the fact that the state is pro-gun to support his argument about why there should not be laws restricting guns. He talks about how Obama wants to take away a Constitutional right and that he believes that is not the right approach. He argues that in Florida they have a background check system that allow for only those who pass to be eligible to hold concealed-weapon permits. Bush says that the crime rates in Florida because they have created a great balance.

Ted Cruz has a strange take on gun control. His main argument is that we shouldn’t have laws restricting guns in case of government tyranny. “It is a Constitutional right to protect your children, your family, your home, our lives, and to serve as the ultimate check against governmental tyranny — for the protection of liberty.” He too believes that it is very important to be able to bear arms in order to protect ourselves and the people we care about.

Now, onto the Democrats.

Hillary Clinton makes a case that 33,000 people being killed yearly by gun violence is unacceptable, and I think that we can all agree on that. She supports action to address gun violence. Some of the things she wants to do include conducting background checks and holding gun manufacturers accountable for endangering Americans.

Bernie Sanders acknowledges the fact that gun control is an issue that America is currently facing. He too wants to conduct background checks in order to prevent weapons from getting into the hands of criminals. He also wants to close loop holes that allow private sellers at gun shows and on the internet because that allows for weapons to be sold without background checks.

There you have it, folks, all the candidates views on the issue of gun control that faces today’s society. No matter who wins, there will be inevitable changes coming to America in the aspect of gun laws; so, sit back, grab some popcorn, and relax.

Donald Trump

donald-trumps-hair_zpswqc4ev8gThe face we all love to see. NOT. Well, maybe when his hair looks like this.

June 16th, 2015 could be considered the beginning of the apocalypse. Just kidding, but it is the day that Donald Trump announced that he was going to run in the 2016 presidential election. He set off this journey with the slogan “Make America Great Again”.

Early on his run for presidency, Trump was one of the ten candidates at a debate held by Fox News on August 6th, 2015. He admitted to Megyn Kelly that he believed that the big problem America had as a country was being “politically correct.” Good thing a guy who is not a politician is running for presidency in order to make America “politically correct” again. Thanks Trump, so kind of you.

Later on an interview with CNN, Trump was asked about the Fox debate, and he said that Megyn Kelly was a “lightweight” and had “blood coming out of her eyes, blood coming out of her wherever.” He later told his Twitter followers that he meant her nose, but critics and practically everyone who watched the interview inferred that he was talking about menstruation. Trump went on to tweet about some of his critics were “total losers”. I am so glad to see a man so mature running for President. Leave the subtweeting in middle school, Trump.

When Trump first announced his running for presidency, he expressed his view on immigration.

“When Mexico sends its people, they’re not sending their best. They’re not sending you. They’re sending people that have lots of problems, and they’re bringing those problems…. They’re bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists. And some, I assume, are good people”

Ok, so I am not Mexican, but I am Hispanic. I am orginially from Colombia so I really took this comment to heart, as I’m sure many minorities did. But even for the people that aren’t minorities, just regular people who AREN’T racist saw this comment as unnecessary. Trump later reached out and said that many of the crimes committed by Mexicans were done by those who had been kicked out of Mexico simply because the government didn’t want them there.

.trump-and-immigration-cartoon-darkowIn most recent news, Donald Trump announced that he would not be participating in the debate held by Fox News next week. He in protesting them and asks why he should “make them rich” if they humiliated him the way they did. He really has a lot to say about Megyn Kelly, but everyone else supports her. Usually his bold moves and comments have made him gain support from voters, but this move set him up for criticism. Instead, Trump announced, he will be holding an event in Iowa to raise money for veterans; after threatening to ruin Megyn Kellys career.

This year will be the first year that I am able to vote. You can probably tell that I will not be voting for this man, and I don’t care if you can tell. The truth of the matter is that I did not get my information from mostly left handed sources, I got it from unbiased, or even right handed sources. The fact that a non-politician who is racist, sexist, and just flat out mean is running for president scares me.

I will continue to track Donald Trumps progress or demise throughout this blog- hope it doesn’t piss you off too much.
