RCL Blog 1 – Generating Ideas

Hi! Below are my ideas for my blogs this semester and the podcast.

“This I Believe” Podcast Ideas

My first idea for “This I Believe ” is to write about my struggles with anxiety and ultimately talk about the idea of asking for help and reaching out. Over the past years, I have dealt a lot with anxiety, and at the same time, coming into a new environment. With all that going on I was very hesitant to reach out for help and come face to face with my problems. The second idea I have for the podcast is to talk about going to school in a different district, than where I lived through a program. I would focus on my experiences at the school and emphasize the idea that education is power.

Personal is Political Blog Ideas

For my Personal Political blog, I’m going to be organizing it in a free-ranging style. A few of my ideas are to write from my experience growing up with an immigrant family. Both my parent immigrated to this country and I think it will be interesting to talk about certain topics from the perspective of a child of immigrants such as being first-gen and figuring college out for the first time. My second idea is being raised Catholic and how it changes my perspective on how I view certain topics.

Civic Issues Blog Ideas

For my civic issues blog my two main ideas were to write about the role of public education and the current teacher shortage that many districts are facing. I also thought about writing about sustainability specifically fast fashion as the topic of consumerism.

I’m excited to expand more on these ideas and share them with you.

  1. I really love your idea for the podcast! I think that the overall stigma toward mental health and asking for help has shifted over the years more positively, but maybe still not enough! However, I also think that your school district story could be so unique and crafted in a super impactful way. While your parent’s immigrant story is so special to you, I think it is great topic to talk about because many other people have gone through at least a similar ish experience, so your writing could draw their eye! Overall I think you have such great ideas for all of the assigments!

  2. Hey Judith! I would definitely love to hear more about your first “This I Believe” idea, especially since I can somewhat relate to you on struggling with anxiety and not really wanting to ask for help. I think it would be very interesting to get another point of view on that situation. For your Personal Is Political Blog, I think it is always a great idea to pull from personal experience especially when it relates to race and immigration since not many people understand all the aspects that go into it. Also, for your Civic Issues Blog I think both of your ideas are very relevant to today and I think many people would be interested in learning more!

  3. I think that your belief on mental health and anxiety could be unique, and a great path to start on for the project. For the Personal Is Political Blog, I think incorporating stories of your parents’ immigration and the ways that their cultures have affected your upbringing- similarly to how you mentioned religion- would be a very personal way to talk about the subject and could be tied to how the government treats international holidays, for example. Public education is definitely a really important topic- the teacher shortage could be a great place to start researching further underlying issues as well, such as state funding. Nice work.

  4. For you “This I Believe” assignment, I liked both ideas. Your mental health idea stood out to me. It is such a strong and important message that many people our age deal with. I think you could do a great job with this topic. I like the free-ranging style for “Personal is Political.” It sounds like you have a lot of stories that will be great to use for this topic. Finally, I liked the public education idea for your Civic Issues blog. I am also thinking of doing something in the education area.
