The Criminal Justice Fellowship was established in 2021 by the Penn State Criminal Law Society to encourage and provide opportunities for students to showcase their commitment to improving the field of criminal law and serving all members of their community through public service. The Criminal Justice Fellowship (CJF) will allow students to pursue their desired criminal law internship, which otherwise may not have been possible due to the internship being unpaid.

The CJF is specifically for unpaid public service internships in any governmental agency. Public service internships with governmental entities include Public Defender’s Office, Federal Defender’s Office, District Attorney, State’s Attorney, Attorney General, and various levels of State and Federal Judicial Internships. The CJF Board will consider several factors to determine who will be awarded funding, including: the type of internship desired, the student’s commitment to practicing criminal law, and their evident commitment to public service.

The Criminal Law Society is looking for law firms and attorneys who are eager to help sponsor the CJF. In addition to sponsoring the recipient of this fellowship, individuals and/or firms will also be acknowledged at the Criminal Justice Reform Conference, along with on our website. This is an excellent opportunity to help dedicated advocates follow their passions and ensure the continued additions of committed and dedicated lawyers to the criminal justice system.
