Finally, after all this time we can hear some good news about YouTube, well sort of. In a recent article from Billboard News, Tatiana Crisano describes how “YouTube [Revamped] Its Copyright Claim System”. To people who may be unaware, YouTube has been notorious recently, for having one of, if not the worst copyright system in all of social media. It has been a big problem for content creators who are just trying to begin their careers as a YouTuber and even for the ones who have been there since day one.

According to the article, YouTube has decided to implicate a new system in which “Copyright owners” are required “to provide time stamps indicating where their content appears in videos”. Now as a part of the audience of YouTube this feature seems genius! Sorry back to the story. Anyway, this update According to “project manager Julian Bill” will get rid of the “confusion” surrounding the system for creators. Crisano quoting Julian Bill writes that “claims sometimes lack information… to resolve the issue” Coming from YouTube this is great news knowing that managers are aware of the issues that lie on their platform. She then explains the purpose of the manual claiming being to “let owners make claims on videos that…slip through the cracks of YouTube’s…System”, and as I already explained that system did not do the job especially considering how Crisano says “the claims wouldn’t necessarily disappear.” In Addition to all this, users can either mute the copyrighted section or replace it with a copyright-free song. Lastly, users who fail to provide these timestamps will be punished! All great things YouTube cheers to you for cleaning up your act.

This article is directed specifically towards those of the online community who watch YouTube and their content creators. It is well thought out and gets right to the point. In regard to impact, it certainly has an effect on that audience. In addition to all of these factors, it was very interesting to read due to its relatability and topic.
