Focus Question: How is Cloud technology changing industries practices and standards?
Cloud technology is changing how businesses leaders/EA architects think and operate. But what really is Cloud technology? Cloud technology or cloud computing is delivering computing services, such as analytics, storage/databases, networking, and intelligence, to support faster services, flexible resources and improved scalability. Cloud computing offers a variety of benefits to support business growth, such as enhanced compliance and security practices, flexible and scalable IT infrastructure management, and improved agility to support cost effective measures…. to name a few. Cost effectiveness is the primary reason business use cloud computing capabilities. Organizations such as Amazon Web Services (AWS) recognize the potential of cloud computing and how it can be monetized to support other organizations and industries. Amazon has dedicated the upfront cost and resources to support many organization for cloud services, which makes it much cheaper for organizations as opposed to buying all the necessary and critical infrastructures to support business activities. Another attribute with organizations that cloud services offer is introducing a baseline security implementation/practice that will support most organization security requirement measures to protect their data/information. Cloud technologies offer the greatest flexibly to support agile growth and improves user experience. Such agility directly impacts business capability to support internal and external customer needs.
Okay great… So, cloud computing offers better integration of systems, tools and capabilities to support business value for customers… But how do we integrate such technology within our business? What are the best practices and mythologies that support such a transformation?
Cloud computing is transforming the business world by integrating cloud-based IoT devices and implementing advanced features to create a seamless user experience. Cloud services are optimizing business practices to support all industries deliver scalable capabilities to improve user experience. The first step for cloud adoption is to analyze business requirements, understanding business strategy with IT alignment.
Key Questions to help:
- What is the purpose of cloud migration?
- What type of applications do you need to develop for your enterprise?
- How much scalability and flexibility do your apps need?
- Do you need to scale the database for apps?
- Do you need better security and monitoring features for your database?
Having a complete understanding of the business model and strategy will help leader capture the requirements/goals to adopt cloud based business model, such as Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), Platform as a Service (PaaS), and Software as a Service (SaaS). Establishing a cloud governance framework facilitates monitoring, management and evaluation of each element to support operational capabilities that are optimized with future state business strategies.
