Doja Cat: My UNcancelled Rising Star

Doja Cat: She really did scare me over the summer with that whole chat room situation but, I am glad she cleared the air. My girl is slightly stupid with no internet training, NOT A RACIST.

EXCLUSIVE: Doja Cat Chats PrettyLittleThing Collaboration, New Music – WWD

Doja Cat, born Amala Ratna Zandile Dlamini, is an LA based singer-songwriter. Her music is largely based on however she feels and she often previews it on her insta lives. Her lyrics are extremely witty and I love the way she is able to hop on any song effortlessly.

Personal Rankings

1.) Candy: Skip to 1:00 and the rest is gold. When she whisper sings and starts harmonizing I body roll.

2.) Juicy: Juicy was the star of the album. It reminded me of all about that bass message wise but juicy is clearly better. The beat was overall refreshing and the was cute.

3.) Moo: This song is one of my most prominent memories from 2018 and I think it single handedly brought back cow print. I have cow ears and a bucket hat because of this song. The lyricism alone she wasn’t even trying. The fact she exaggerated the pronunciation of most of the worths in the bridge to replicate the moo. The lyric ” Old Macdonald had a farm I gave him a T***y tryna keep him calm” and “Got Milk Bitch Got Beef” alone took me out.

4.) Tia Tamera: Rico Nasty verse thats all I have to say folks!

5.)Casual: I like when she starts to sound like a robot that’s all I really got

6.)Body Language: This song is cute and reminds me of late 90s RnB-pop.

7.) All Nighter: This song sounds better out loud and makes me get work done. I like the execution of the song if that makes sense like where how she shifts from verse to verse

8.) Fancy

9.) Roll With Us

10.) Wild Beach

11.) Cookie Jar

12.)Go To Town

13.)Game

14.)Wine Pon You

15.)Morning Light

16.) Down Low

Hot Pink (2019):

Personal Rankings

1.) Streets: I don’t even know if this needs any explanation, Ever since it’s first play this song has been on heavy rotation at least once a day. Her melodies the beat, the harmonies and the overall vibe of the song is simply perfection. When she starts rapping and beat shifts I transcend. It’s hard to believe she wrote this about Johnny Utah.

2.) Rules: The line Play with my meow, but don’t play with my emotions alone is why this a very close second. Then we she does the austin powers line along with her second verse. This song is also a 10/10 I can never grow tired of it and the music video is weird but one of my favorites.

3.) Won’t Bite: Now this song is criminally underrated. Her and Smino was the collab I was waiting for a VERY LONG TIME. The song is overall very catchy and lingers in my mind for a while. I will randomly catch myself saying ” I might (yeyeyey)”. The song is exactly how I imagine her personality is if it makes sense. But smino came in the song and skated. The beat is one of my favorites from the album it reminds me of the summer.

4.) Talk Dirty: This song is placed so high simply because of her verses I love when she raps fast. I love the overlapping vocals and when she whisper sings.

5.) Like That: Tiktok almost ruined this song for me but it’s just too good to be annoyed with. Gucci is one of my favorite southern rappers and I love how he constantly uplifts female rappers. He skated and his verse is very underappreciated. The last 30 seconds of the song were she just says ” I like it” needs to be longer. I hated the music video at first, I expected more. But it grew on me.

6.) Say So: RELEASE DOJA CAT FROM THE SHACKLES OF PERFORMING THIS SONG PLEASE SHE IS TIRED. Anyways this is the staple of the album, I used to do the tik tok dance unconsciously before covid came. Tiktok really did what it had to do with this song, it is overall soothing and a feel good song.

7.) Juicy: Tyga’s verse wasn’t needed. Now that this is off my chest. This song is simply a bop it has me saying back multiple times. The rest of the songs below this are all great as well

8.) Bottom Bitch: I had a Avril lavigne phase as a child and that’s all I have to say about this.

9.) Cyber Sex

10.) Better Than Me

11.) Talk Dirty

12.) Shine

RANKINGS: (Side note- Her unreleased music and features hits harder than her released music sometimes) Her on the BMO remix was top tier

1.)Hot Pink: It is no surprise that this album is my favorite album she released. This album was really hard to rank because I loved every song on this album with most of them being my most listened to songs of 2019 and 2020. The album was overall a breath of fresh air Doja was able to experiment and explore with her sound while still leaving her signature touch on every song. 10/10

2.) Amala: I am not gonna lie I did not really attach myself to this album, it had a few great songs but for me it was overall okay compared to her previous EPs. You can tell she did not have a great producer because some of the songs do not sound well listening with headphones6/10

Thanks!
