Jorja Smith: The Brit

Jorja Smith On Drake and Kendrick Lamar Co-Signs, Debut Album: 'My Songs Are Classics' | Billboard | Billboard

Jorja Smith is an English singer and songwriter. She is known for her soft yet powerful voice, music range, and collabs with artist like Drake, Stormzy, and Kali Uchis. She is seriously talented and has a very unique voice that I can always distinctly hear even when she just is backing vocals. Her music maybe a little too slow paced for some but for me I need this level of calmness in my life.

Project 11 (2016):

Project 11 by Jorja Smith

Number of songs: 5 songs (18 minutes) EP

1.) Something In The Way: This is one of my all time favorite songs, I have played this song too death. This song reminds me of my sophomore year in high school, the song was what caught my ear about Jorja, it was my first time listening to a song like that. Now she is one of my favorite singers, her sound is very diverse.

2.)Imperfect Circle: This song talks about the constant cycle of oppression black people goes through and as much as I love the main part of the song I really love the transition at the end when she goes into this melodic merry go round way of singing.

3.)So Lonely: I love it when Jorja makes sad songs, something about it just makes me feel comforted. She really expresses/ personifies what it feels like to feel all alone with this one. Fueled my teenage angst.

4.) Carry Me Home: Okay Maverick features on this song and he has such a old school smooth jazz voice it really complemented Jorja’s. The songs really good play it my wedding.

5.)Carry Me Home Interlude

Lost & Found (Jorja Smith album) - Wikipedia

Number of songs:12 (40 minutes)

1.) Tomorrow: This song right here has made me cry several times, It’s so beautiful and I think it’s a good mourning/fight/justice song. It is just very touching and I love the fact that she adds a choir at the end. It really got me through the brink of the BLM protests.

2.) Teenage Fantasy: This song I also love this is another song that really hooked me to her I think it emasculates teenage love beautifully. I love the song and there are few songs out that sound like this so the uniqueness keeps me coming back as well.

3.) Blue Lights: This song also sheds lights on black plight and our incarceration rates in Britain I really love this song. It gives the POV of the actual convict. The piano really makes the songs.

4.) The One: The music video for this one really made me love the song it is so relaxing and is perfect to listen to in the rain.

5.) Goodbyes: This is also a mourning song which really helped me get through the death of a loved one. It is bittersweet and I truly love her thought process behind writing the song

6.) February 3rd: This song really reminds me of february specifically at a park. It’s very refreshing it reminds me of Alicia Keys.

7.) Don’t Watch Me Cry

8.) On Your Own

9.) Wandering Romance

10.) Lost & Found

11.) Lifeboats Freestyle

12.) Where Did I Go?

Rankings:

1.) Lost & Found: This was an amazing debut album ZERO skips she really put her heart into this and it shows. The songs are all similar but evoke a different emotion for me and I love it. I can not wait for her next album. She really showed she can lure people in with her voice effortlessly and her instrumental choice is chef’s kiss.

10/10

2.) This was an EP but it was still superb. She obviously has grown and matured since the creation of this EP but this still reminds me of how much she has grown and even though there are only 5 little songs I still can listen to this for hours on end

9.5/10
