Why We Need to Take Care of Our Planet

TIME for Kids | What is Global Warming?

In a grand conclusion, how can we stop global warming? Fossil fuels need to stay in the ground, and it is essential that we use the techniques I have written my other posts on. As a society, we need to invest in renewable energy. Using energy sources such as solar, wind, wave, tidal, and geothermal power. Focusing on using efficient transport such as electric vehicles and public transportation can reduce the carbon emissions. We must actively protect forests, such as the Amazon. Forests are crucial in fighting climate change. The mass amount of wildlife and trees fights carbon emissions and increases the amount of oxygen available. Companies destroying forests is negatively impacting the environment and needs to be protected. In the same vein, oceans must be protected because oceans can absorb large amounts of carbon dioxide. Unfortunately, oceans are overfished, used for oil and gas drilling, or threatened by deep sea mining. While large companies can do mass damage, making individual green choices can have large impacts. Between transportation, food, choosing to recycle and stop wasting plastic, it can help put less strain on the planet.

Global warming needs to be a priority to guarantee our survival on the planet. It will cause significant harm to the health of people and communities by compromising food and water supplies, infectious disease and heat stress, and extreme weather events and rising sea levels. Essentially, we are directly related to the health of our planet and need to treat it with the upmost care. The average global surface is now 1.5 degrees Fahrenheit warmer than the start of the industrial revolution. 2000 to 2009 is the warmest recorded decade in the history of the world. Research shows that most of the increase in global average temperatures since the mid-20th century has resulted from an increase in human-generated greenhouse gas emissions. Since humans are largely responsible for these changes, we are called upon to stabilize the climate.

Steps have already been taken to reduce our carbon footprint. For example, the Paris Agreement is the first truly global commitment to fight the climate crisis. 195 countries and the European Union signed on to a sweeping agreement that aims to keep overall global warming to below 2 degrees Celsius. This differs than previous treatments because it allowed each country to set its own emission reduction targets and adopt its own strategies for reaching them. It recognized the socioeconomic benefits that come with climate change. Overall, we must take care of our planet because it is the only to guarantee our future of humanity.
