Maine

Last summer, my friends and I wanted to do a trip before college. My friend Jazzy and her family move up to Maine for the summer and she kindly invited us to stay with her instead of planning an expensive trip.  We started planning for the trip in June and we went at the end of July. We took a train up to Boston and then a bus to Portland where Jazzy picked us up and drove us to her house. We thought about driving ourselves except none of us had a car that would fit us and our bags. When we got to Portland, we ended up walking around there for a little and eating lunch. However, we didn’t stay too long since we were exhausted from traveling. It was an hour car ride to Boothbay, where she lived, but it was a scenic route. A particular memory from that car ride was when Jazzy drove over Thrill Hill. Thrill Hill is a steep hill where you drive over it fast enough, you’ll go in the air for a little bit and come back down. It feels like a roller-coaster and it’s pretty fun, but I’m honestly not quite sure how safe it is. Jazzy drove over it with no warning, which was frightening, but a good time.

The rest of the trip was filled with hiking, kayaking, and going to the beach. My favorite day of the trip was going to the Pemaquid Lighthouse. It was a beautiful day and when we got there, we realized that there was a small wedding ceremony occuring. It was really cute and we stood back a bit to watch it. After it was over, we got in line to take a tour of the lighthouse. It was small, so only a few groups were allowed in at the time. We finally got inside where the tour guide gave us a brief history of the lighthouse and its importance. Sadly, I honestly don’t remember the history too well otherwise I would be including it. We eventually walked up to the top, which was narrow and steep making me feel a bit queasy. However, it wasn’t too bad and it was a short staircase. It was worth it when we reached the top. It had such a pretty view of the ocean. We stayed there for a little bit to take some photos, but not for long since it was getting hot. We exited the lighthouse and walked around close to the ocean. However, there was no beach it was all rocks so we had to be careful walking. We got pretty close to the water, yet we didn’t realize that the waves would come crashing down on the rocks, giving us a big splash. Luckily, I was far away enough that I didn’t get too wet, but some of my friends got soaked, which was kind of funny. Afterwards, we were all tired and went back to Jazzy’s.

There were other memorable days of the trip, but I thought I would just write about my favorite day. I had so many fun memories with my high school friends from that trip that will last a lifetime. I’m hoping to go back this summer, but it all depends on everyone’s schedule and if there will even be a summer. I do hope quarantine will end by June, so I can have summer.
