Vol. 1: Trinity Christian Academy (2005-2007)

This story began approximately 15 years ago in 2005 (wow I’m old). Months before the 2005-2006 school year started, my parents were trying to decide which school I should attend. They ultimately decided to enroll me in the nearby private Christian school called Trinity Christian Academy. Of course I was excited to attend because I was looking forward to going to school for a very long time. That excitement increased even more when I went to go pick up my uniform: four polos (navy, red, green, and white) with “TCA” on the left side of the chest, two pairs of navy pants, and two pairs of shorts.

Late August of 2005 came before I knew it and it was time for my first day of Pre-K! I got up, brushed my teeth, put on the red shirt (because it was my favorite color at the time) and a pair of shorts, and went downstairs to eat breakfast although I didn’t have an appetite because of how nervous I was. My sister and I then walked out the door after our mom handed us our lunches she packed for us. Of course in classic mom style she insisted we take a picture. After the picture, my parents dropped my sister off at her school and then drove to Trinity and walked me into my class. As soon as I walked into my classroom I was greeted by a tall, 50-something woman named Mrs. Whithers. “Hello! I’m your teacher Mrs. Whithers! What’s your name?” she said. “Hi I’m KJ” (KJ was my nickname growing up. It stood for Kirk Jr.) I responded. I walked to my seat and waved goodbye to my parents. After sitting in my seat for a second, a hyper redhead kid introduced himself, “Hi, I’m Gavin!” he said. After I introduced myself he noticed by lunch box only to have the same exact one. Little did I know that this kid was going to be my friend for years. Since I went to a Christian school, we had mandatory church a couple times a week, unfortunately, I get bored very fast and very easily so I used to fall asleep during it. Hmm… I wonder is He’s still mad at me for that?

Not even going to lie, everything from September 2005 to August 2006 was a big blur, but lucky enough this bring us to Kindergarten! This year I had a strict but kind, short-haired woman named Mrs. Hicks as my teacher.  Gavin ended up being in my class as well! This year I got to know more kids in my class thanks to the fact that some of our parents becoming friends as well. In Kindergarten my biggest personality trait was Cars, pretty sure I said “Lightning McQueen” on average at least twice every three sentences. My other biggest personality trait was Spider-Man, so when I found out that Spider-Man 3 was coming out in June 2007, it was over. At the end of Kindergarten, I graduated which was one of the most exciting days of my life! I remember walking down the aisle seeing my picture on the screen. Like I said previously, I get bored very fast, so I felt myself nodding off when everyone was talking. Me, Gavin, and some friends celebrated our graduation by seeing Spider-Man 3 that next Saturday after!

  1. I loved this!! I too loved Lightening McQueen and Spiderman. If it makes you feel better, all throughout high school I would doze off during mass too, and I had about ten years of experience more than you did at this time. I loved reading this and it sounds like it was fun and easy for you to write. I can’t wait to read more of them throughout the semester!

  2. Even though you said it was a blur, you wrote this as if it was yesterday. I cannot remember anything from pre K and barely anything from Kindergarten.
