Previously, I spoke so passionately about my favorite artist, who just happens to be one of many rising KRnB artists, but today, I want to switch gears and introduce a more well-known senior of Big Naughty.
Originally from the states, Jay Park is one of the founders of modern KRnB, as he took American-dominated RnB and infused it with the Korean flair to progress, in my opinion, a masterpiece of a genre. Along with his Korean nature, Park utilized his American nurture to start a wave that would advance KRnB to what it is today, partially influenced by American music styles and culture.
As a Korean-American myself, that’s partially why I love KRnB so much. It hits both of the aspects of music I’m used to and I favor, and I have Jay Park to thank for that. It’s hard to explain, and I’m not sure how, but he somehow managed to merge Korean vibes with American vibes to create a whole new vibe in his music. Korean music and American RnB gave birth to an interracial child, which is exactly how I’d describe myself growing up in America with strong Korean roots.
Having collaborated with hundreds of artists of different genres and types, Jay Park’s music is nothing close to plain or bland. With every new release, Park presents music fit for a different occasion than those previous, so when looked at as a whole, he has songs fit for any and every occasion. The diversity of cultures and styles of his music is like none other, so I never run out of options when I listen to him. Some of his songs are brighter with more lighthearted content and vibes, while others are more serious and deeper in meaning, which I both enjoy depending on my circumstances.
Tracing back to his roots, Jay Park’s already made somewhat of a name for himself in the states. However, he ultimately pales in comparison to the big American names, but compared to his Korean peers, he’s very well known and only has room to grow. He’s continuing to broaden his scopes as he’s collaborated with big shot names such as Wiz Khalifa and previously signed with ROC Nation alongside Jay Z & Rhianna before creating his own music labels based in Korea.
As someone so similar in nature, my hopes are for Jay Park to continue to gain popularity all across the world and continue to produce such unique KRnB music.
