As many of us are aware, most music industries are dominated by relatively younger artists, and that’s no different for KRnB, as seen by the artists I previously introduced. However, we mustn’t forget the earlier artists who held the ground for younger artists to thrive in. For KRnB, Kwon Jung Yeol, better known by his stage name 10cm, is one of those earlier artists who walked so younger artists could run, and that’s not to say that he isn’t popular anymore, because he certainly is.
Kwon Jung Yeol: 10cm
10cm was just an average, relatively popular artist upon his debut. He had a few hit songs such as “Americano”, but it wasn’t until his songs began to be used as K-Drama OSTs that he “blew up”. Most notably, his song “Drawer” was used for the mega-hit Drama “Our Beloved Summer”, which is the first K-Drama that I’ve actually watched, so “Drawer” holds a special place in my heart. 10cm had already gained a good amount of popularity in Korea prior to this drama series, but as “Our Beloved Summer” achieved major success both nationally and overseas, a good number of new people were introduced to this Korean RnB artist. He’s not what I would consider to be a super famous “superstar”, but he’s popular enough for people to come across and listen to, which was the case for me.

To get a bit more personal, I generally enjoy listening to 10cm because of his songwriting skills. Overall, he’s very good at making catchy, yet meaningful songs. Not only do the choruses of his songs tend to stick very well in my head, but upon focusing on the lyrics, I’m able to discover countless hidden messages and meanings. I enjoy how “artistic” he is with his music. Generally, his songs and these messages are about love, which tends to have sort of a warm vibe and feeling, which I really love and find appealing. I listen to his songs whenever I’m feeling down or lonely.
(Also, just for some TMI, him and I share the same last name, which, in Korea, means we share the same ancestors somewhere down the road. Technically, him and I are related by blood (very little, but it still counts). That tends to increase my favorability of him just slightly because there aren’t many Korean celebrities with the last name Kwon.)
