Columbia River Gorge
Oregon, USA
All right! Week 2 of Quarantine is almost complete! I hope everyone’s online classes are going smoothly and that you and your families are safe and healthy!
Today, we’re going to take it back to 2017. This was one of my absolute favorite trips! (I was shocked to realize I haven’t blogged about this trip yet so I’m super excited to tell you about it)!
August 2017 my family travelled to Northern Oregon and Washington. Yet again, we were creating a trip my parents went on years ago. A cool part about this time was that I had been on that trip too!
We travelled to Seattle, Mount Rainer, and the Ho Rain forest back in 2001. While planning this trip, we found baby pictures of me in all of the places we were planning to go to!
This trip will have to be broken up into a few parts since it was so awesome!
I honestly don’t remember which order we saw things in so today is Oregon!
We went to the blog/Instagram famous Multnomah “M” Falls in the Columbia River Gorge close to the Washington Border.
The hike up to the top of the falls was full of switchbacks and was pretty exhausting, but had a great aerial view of the falls and looked out over beautiful forests.
As we were driving around, I was reading the Heroes of Olympus series by Rick Riordan and was super into it. I didn’t want to put my books down and was pretty grumpy/angry/cranky/SUPER ANNOYED when my parents decided to park on the side of the road and told us to get out.
They also told us to put on flip flops and hike up to a trailhead across from a packed parking lot. I was not a happy camper. “Why are we going into a crowded trailhead?!” “Why can’t I wear my hiking boots?!”
Thankfully I complied and dragged myself to the trailhead.
Even though it was packed, it was for a good reason.
The hike was at the bottom of a mini canyon so as we went along the stream in the middle, the towering walls of rock covered in slippery moss.
Remember the feeling when your teachers let you go outside on the playground and you felt like the king of the world? And you and all the other kids would scramble up every rope, rock wall or stairwell to get to the top? That rush of excitement is exactly what I felt when we reached the halfway point on the hike.
By then all of the children, and all of the adults, had to scramble over fallen trees and avoid falling into hard piles of rocks or pools of water! It was like and adult jungle gym.
When we reached the end of the hike, we were at the base of a huge, beautiful water fall and people were swimming in the water at the bottom. Of course, I couldn’t be the only one of my siblings not to hop in!
I’ll end this post with the waterfalls and then next week we’ll either continue with this adventure or head a little southeast and dive into details about Arches. Stay tuned and good luck!
