Information on summer access to Lexis, Bloomberg Law, CALI, and Westlaw for members of the Classes of 2020 & 2021:
LEXIS: There are no restrictions on use over the summer, and you do not have to do anything to extend your password.
BLOOMBERG LAW: There are no restrictions on use over the summer, and you do not have to do anything to extend your password.
CALI: There are no restrictions on use over the summer, and you do not have to do anything to extend your password.
WESTLAW: You can use Thomson Reuters’ products, including Westlaw, Practical Law, and the Practice Ready solutions, over the summer for non-commercial research. You can turn to these resources to gain understanding and build confidence in your research skills, but you cannot use them in situations where you are billing a client. You do not have to do anything to gain access to these tools over the summer.
Examples of permissible uses for your Westlaw password include the following:
- Summer coursework
- Research assistant assignments
- Law Review or Journal research
- Moot Court research
- Non-Profit Work
- Clinical work
- Externship sponsored by the school
Access for the Class of 2019 (May Graduates):
LEXIS: Your Lexis ID will remain active for full system access through December 31, 2019. During this time, there are no restrictions on how you use your Lexis ID, and you do not need to register for this additional access through the end of the year. At midnight on June 30, 2019, your Lexis rewards points will expire and you will see a new custom home page beginning on July 5, 2019.
Graduates working for a public interest organization may sign up for the Lexis ASPIRE Program, which provides 12 months of free access to federal and state cases, codes, regulations, law reviews, Shepard’s and Matthew Bender treatises. BLOOMBERG LAW: Graduating students have access for six months after graduation. You do not need to do anything to extend your access.
CALI: Graduating students have access for two years after graduation. You do not need to do anything to extend your access.
WESTLAW: Graduating law students have access to Thomson Reuters products, including Westlaw and Practical Law, for six months after graduation. Your “Grad Elite” access gives you 60 hours per month of usage of these products to gain understanding and build confidence in your research skills. While you cannot use them in situations where you are billing a client, Thomson Reuters encourages you to use these tools to build your knowledge of the law and prepare for your bar exam. In addition, you get access to job searching databases on Westlaw and TWEN for 18 months after graduation for one hour per month.
