New Digital ABA Collection and Lexis Study Aids Added to Lexis Digital Library

The Penn State Dickinson Law Library has expanded the content of the Lexis Digital Library. In addition to the current subject and Pennsylvania collections in the digital library, the full collection of books published by the American Bar Association (ABA) and Lexis Study Aids have been added to the Lexis Digital Library.

  • The current ABA collection is comprised of 829 titles with new titles being added regularly.
  • The Lexis Study Aids collection includes the “Understanding Series” and the “Questions & Answers” series. The study aids are divided into a group for first year courses and a group for upper level courses.

To access the Lexis Digital Library, click on the link on the Law Library Homepage or you can go to this link. If you are not on campus, you will need to authenticate using your Penn State credentials. Once on the Lexis Digital Library site, click on “Browse library” to see the items organized by collection – scroll down to find the ABA materials or the Study Aids.

Guides to Remote Learning and Remote Teaching

In the last few weeks education has gone online, and everyone has an email, a blog post, or a webpage that is supposed to explain everything. We are all on information overload and we are hoping to help you wade through some of the important information. The guides linked above were curated for you – the students and the faculty.  The guides are intended to be very narrowly focused – to help you as a Dickinson Law student learn online or you as a Dickinson Law faculty member teach online.

The fantastic news is that publishers have, in an extraordinary act of generosity, made their products freely available online. This is in addition to the wealth of resources that are available to the Penn State community. The faculty guide includes some resources for assessment, but both guides include the following resources:

Textbooks – This is the big, huge, amazing news…all the major legal textbook publishers, including Bluebook, are providing open access to their materials to enable students who may not have access to their books, to complete the current semester. Most access will expire in May or June depending on the publisher.

Online Study Guides – The Law Library already provides access to many online study guides such as Quimbee, West Academic, and CALI. Wolters Kluwer has also opened access to many of their study guide series such as Examples and Explanations, Glannon, Understanding, and more, for a limited period of time.

Online Research Resources – In addition to the vast holdings of the combined Law Library and Penn State University Libraries, other publishers including the National Emergency Library and Project Muse have opened their platforms to provide free access for a limited time.

News Sources – Penn State libraries provide access to some of the major daily US newspapers including: The New York Times, the Los Angeles Times, USA Today, and the Chicago Tribune. The Washington Post is also providing free access through June 30, 2020.

Penn State Resources – This is a list of major Penn State sites dedicated to remote learning and Covid-19.
