TED TALK

Over the years I have watch plenty of TED Talks, throughout either finding them on YouTube, receiving them from someone and even forced to view some in class. There are lots of categories to watch, someone could watch TED Talks talking about diseases, success, the economy, psychology, and so much more. I have watched a variety ranging from depression, psychology and scientific advancements. I tend to always get my attention drawn more towards sad TED Talks because although they have a sad back story they can strongly and emotionally influence and audience. I also feel as though most of those talks involve personal experiences and they allow the viewers to feel more connected. I know some people might disagree about watching sad Talks, but I strongly believe that some upsetting talks are necessary. They usually hold most of the strong topics people choose to not discuss due to being afraid. I also am a stong believe in how struggle builds character, which is something I look at personally in my life. It is different to listen to others about their experiences to learn how to prevent things or better situations. Which could also branch out to why I am choosing to major in Psychology. Although I was struggling to find a specific TED Talk on the actual site, there is a really good one on YouTube, called Overcoming Homelessness, Nick Vujicic. In which he described his experiences with struggles. Although at times it was sad, he also discusses how he was able to overcome a lot which demonstrates a strong characteristic in someone. He strives to set an example to all, while he does not ask for pity, he wants to allow people to know that there are other options and you should never give up. Which is very inspirational to me, how people have the strive to survive and choose to change.

  1. I haven’t seen this one before either but I do agree that sad talks are sometimes necessary. Of course, it is good to always be positive but I think it’s important to learn from sadness to understand how to overcome it. For me, it actually inspires change and positivity. I will definitely look into this talk !

  2. I have not seen this TED talk before, but it seems to be very inspiring and if you can relate to the talk it makes it much more powerful. I would definitely look at the techniques used to inspire found throughout the talk to implement into your TED talk.

  3. I think being able to connect to the audience is important in a Ted-Talk or any presentation. I think you will want to look more in-depth about some strategies they use to connect with the audience and how they shift from the sad stories to the inspirational/informative.
