Practice Etiquette

WE WILL DISCUSS PRACTICE ETIQUETTE IN MORE DETAIL WHEN YOU JOIN

  • Please be respectful of everyone.
  • Always try to show up 15 minutes early and meet outside 126 White Building so we can start on time. Many people are busy and have to show up late. This is okay, but if you have no obligations right before kendo practice, please make an effort to show up early.
  • Always bow when entering and exiting the dojo.
  • Never step over someone’s shinai or kick someone’s kendo equipment.
  • Never lean on your shinai.
  • If certain exercises are too physically straining or if you have a prior injury, please let someone know so they can adjust it for you. Don’t stay quiet and do nothing if at anytime you feel pain or if something is just too challenging. Please say something.
  • Never be scared to ask senior members anything during practice.

Club Dues and Expenses

  • All members are expected to purchase a shinai after two weeks and uniform after one month of practice.
  • No club dues are currently collected.

Practice Times and Policy

Practice times can be found under “Times and Location.” We expect all members to attend practice at least once a week but encourage you to attend more if possible. If you intend to test you need to be regularly attending practice twice a week for the duration of the semester.

Any practice cancellations will be communicated via PSU email and Discord.
