Welcome to the Kennedy lab website

Hello and welcome to the Kennedy lab website! Based at Penn State in the Department of Biology and the Huck Institute of Life Sciences, we study the ecology and evolution of infectious diseases by combining theoretical and computational methods with experiments and data.

Ecology shapes evolution, and as we all learned in real-time over the past few years, the consequences of pathogen evolution can be catastrophic — new diseases, more deadly diseases, more transmissible pathogens, pathogens that evade our drugs/vaccines, and so on. Research in the Kennedy lab uses empirical and theoretical approaches to explore how the ecology of infectious diseases shapes pathogen evolution, with the ultimate goal of being able to delay, prevent or reverse adverse evolutionary outcomes.
