- My focus for the Paradigm Shift project is the growing addiction people have to their smart phones. Rather than just exploring the fundamental change in society’s outlook on technology, I plan to explore how social media causes a deep attachment between humans and their phones. Social media has ingrained a constant feeling of comparison between users and a need to be perceived in a good light by their followers. 2. Social media is used by millions of people everyday, especially students. It is important to understand the effects social media has on society and how it encourages the addicting nature of smart phones. People should be aware of their own habits, as most people spend more time than they think browsing through social media. It is also important to note the features of certain platforms that encourage this addictive behavior, such as the “Explore” page on Instagram.
