Starting off: Balance

Hi! Welcome to my blog! In this blog, I plan to talk about a few things that have always mattered to me throughout my life. These consist of Nutrition, Exercise, Running, and most of all, Balance. Balance is defined by Merriam Webster as “mental and emotional steadiness.” While balance can be referred to in many ways, I found that this was the best definition that fit. Within these topics discussed briefly at the beginning, I have found that the most important thing of them all is balance. While balance is usually referred to as a physical element, for example, a gymnast balancing on a balance beam. In my case, I am discussing balance as a key part to a healthy lifestyle, instead of the physical aspect of balance.

Something that many individuals do often is exercise. No matter what form, it is something very common whether it is running, lifting, playing basketball, or something else. Throughout my life, I have learned that it is impossible to love something without having balance in life, and this can happen within exercise and nutrition, as it does often times. Not only can it happen within exercise, but also work. If someone works 80 hours a week, and does not allow time for things like family, friends, or activities they enjoy, which means there is not a good sense of balance. This can also be related to exercising and nutrition, if someone exercises for two hours, but then does not fuel themselves properly, it can be draining and feel like it wasn’t even worth it. At the end of the day, work-life balance is a huge part of living a balanced lifestyle. When people live a balanced lifestyle, it allows them to enjoy many aspects of life, and not just focus on a singular one, such as work.

In my own experience, balance has impacted me in many ways. Not only has it impacted myself, but many others, if not everyone. Many of us can relate to the fact that in high school and now, we have always wanted to create the perfect sense of balance between school, sleep, a part time job, a social life, family, exercise, and more. Personally, I know that I have always tried to find this balance, and I still am. I have learned that if life is not balanced, it leads to burnout and exhaustion, which can both be avoided much more easily if life is balanced. Because of my personal experience, I know that a balanced lifestyle leads to a happier and less stressful life in general.

Within this passion blog, I hope that everyone can find a certain sense of balance or learn more about it. Centerstone states, “The following practices will help bring balance back into your life. 1. I completely agree with everything you said! I often find myself “off-balance” when I am most stressed. I’ve noticed that I must be more intentional with my time here at college because I can get stuck in a routine of only focusing on schoolwork when I should be carving out time for other things as well.

  2. First off, I love the topic surrounding your blog. I think it is so important to engage in a healthy lifestyle, like nutrition, staying physically active, and ensuring that your mental health is put at the forefront of it all.
I know that I for one, struggle with balance. I tend to develop fixate on certain activities, foods, and hobbies until I get bored of them. I stress myself out with school work and engage in unhealthy habits to cope.
On top of that, I struggle to balance it all. I have a double major, a social life, clubs, the gym, my friends, a relationship, when do I have time to eat?!?!?! I hope to learn some ways to balance it all from you. Great first post!

  3. I love this blog post idea! I agree with many of your points about balance. It is a very crucial part of living and enjoying life. Personally, balance has affected me the most in my transition to college. Just like your story, it was difficult for me to balance work and school along with my social activities. In the beginning of the first semester, it felt like there were not enough hours in the day. I was exhausted by the time I fell asleep. I had to change this pattern, so I quickly turned it around the best I could. After a few weeks, I had much more balance in my life and felt much happier. I wonder what age group of people feel the most imbalance in their lives. As college students, I feel it has already impacted many people. So many people feel exhaustion and burnout already.
