STEM teaching group: I co-founded a group (along with Dr. Steve Van Hook) in 2010 to bring together Penn State faculty across a myriad of disciplines (not just science) to share teaching ideas, review results of education research, and bring in speakers on teaching and education topics.
Center for Excellence in Science Education (CESE): I have been on the advisory board for Penn State’s CESE since 2011, when the center began. We educate and mentor faculty members in evidence-based interactive teaching techniques.
General Education Faculty Scholars: I have been a Faculty Scholar (formerly called “Faculty Fellow”) for the Penn State Office of General Education since the program began in 2016. Our purpose is to advise and help faculty in developing general education classes that contain an integrative studies component. This new aspect of Penn State’s General Education program is intended to help our students to see connections between disciplines, thus increasing the depth and value of their education.
Climate and Diversity Committee: I have been on the PSU Eberly College of Science Climate and Diversity committee since 2011. Our continuing mission: to assess and improve the climate of the college as a place to work and study for all members of our campus community.
