Current and former KSEA Central Pennsylvania Chapter members attended SEED (Scientists and Engineers Early-Career Development) Workshop held on Dec. 4 – 5, 2015 at the KSEA headquarter building.  Five members from Central PA Chapter plus two former chapter members attended the workshop:

  • Jeong, Donghui (Assistant Professor of Astronomy and Astrophysics at Penn State Univ.);
  • Rim, Donghyun (Assistant Professor of Architectural Engineering at Penn State Univ.);
  • Kim, Gloria Bora (PhD Candidate in Bioengineering at Penn State Univ.);
  • Kim, Eun-Kyeong (PhD Candidate in Geography at Penn State Univ.);
  • Kweon, Sang Jin (PhD Candidate in Industrial Engineering at Penn State Univ.);
  • Sohn, Jungwoo (Postdoctoral Researcher at Kean Univ.) – a former chapter member;
  • Na, Ji Young (Assistant Professor of Communication Sciences and Disorders at Kansas State Univ.) – a former chapter member.

The workshop was a great chance to not only get current & former members reunited, but also it provided high quality career development related lectures and presentations.  According to descriptions on the workshop, “the goal of the SEED is to provide a professional career development service, which is consistent, systematic, and practically useful for junior Korean-American scientists and engineers ranging from postdoctoral researchers (or graduate students whose defense is scheduled before June 30, 2016) to early career professionals”.

KSEA was very generous to support travel costs (up to $300), hotel accommodations (for free), and three or four meals. We highly encourage you to participate in the next SEED workshop, if you are eligible to apply for it.
