La ville de l’amour. A place I have been desperately trying to return to ever since I left. To me, Paris is the ultimate city. There is so much history, fashion, and great food. Many of my childhood memories are intertwined with this city causing me to fall in love with the city of love.
Of course, you cannot visit Paris without seeing the Eiffel Tower but be careful because French merchants are scouring the place for Americans to sell their tourist merchandise to at a very steep price. Having been up to the top and being terrified of heights let me share my experience. I got to the top and was so terrified I just sat down cause I was convinced this monument that had been there since 1887 was going to fall down now that I was at the top. The second time I went to the top I was much older and much more terrified. This time I was surrounded by my middle school French class that thought my fear of the elevator that was being pulled up by ONE SINGLE CORD was extremely funny. One unique thing I do recommend and not many people think about is walking down the Effile tower from the first level. It isn’t very long and is a really cool experience and view if the elevators are extremely crowded.
My favorite place in all of Paris is Laudrée. Laudrée is most famous for their macaroons. You have never tried real macaroons unless you have bought them from Laudrée. There are three different locations you can go to and have breakfast, try some croissants, and get a box of macaroons!
Another French favorite is crêpes of course. You can have a crêpe for every meal in Paris and it’s justifiable. Of course, my sister, Georgia, loved to just ask for “une crêpe au beurre”, a butter crêpe, and watch the waiters surprised look. Seriously! In the city famous for crêpes all she wanted was butter.
Just standing in front of the Arc de Triomphe or the Cathedral Notre-Dame is breathtaking. I love taking in all the details and the beauty they were able to accomplish so long ago. No matter where you go in the city you will find beauty all around you.
One of my fondest memories is taking a boat ride down the Seine river. It’s a great way to see all the famous places in Paris. Some of the sights you will pass include the Effiel Tower, the Louvre, the Grand and Petit Palais, and the Musée d’Orsay (a famous museum).
Overall Paris is one of the best cities to visit because there is stuff for everyone to do! Shopaholics can shop, foodies can try French cuisine, and history or art fanatics can visit the museums.
