Welcome to Dr. Matthew Kumjian’s Research Group Website!

I’m Matt Kumjian, an Associate Professor in the Department of Meteorology and Atmospheric Science at Penn State University.  My main interests are in using polarimetric radar observations and numerical models to understand microphysical processes in a variety of different storms. The insights gained by synthesizing radar measurements and simulations help us better understand the structure and behavior of storm systems. Additionally, this type of approach can be used to help constrain how we treat certain physical processes in the numerical models, ultimately improving simulations and forecasts.
