“I take this magnetic force of a man to be my lover” – “Lover,” Taylor Swift
Taylor Swift and Joe Alwyn have been dating for almost 5 years, making him Swift’s longest relationship yet. Due to his prominence in her life, it’s only justified we spend a whole blog taking a deep dive into Joe and their relationship.
Alwyn, 30, is an English actor known for starring in movies such as “Harriet,” “Operation Finale,” and “Mary Queen of Scots.”
The pair supposedly met each other at the 2016 Met Gala. While this hasn’t been confirmed, in the song “Dress,” Taylor sings “Flashback when you met me, your buzzcut and my hair bleached.” Despite the poster dating Calvin Harris at the time, fans speculate this is a reference to Swift’s bleached hair and Joe’s buzz cut at the time of the event.
Fast forward to January 3rd, 2017, Taylor announces that she and Joe have been dating for three months. In her promotion for album “Lover,” Swift released a journal entry she wrote after releasing the news to the public.
However, from the start of her relationship, the two have vowed to keep their relationship private. Following all the attention after Taylor’s 1989 tour and feuds with other celebrities, she has gone to lengthy extents to stay out of the public’s eye. Sources say that on visits to see Joe, “Taylor has flown in via private jets and her security has made it a military-like mission to prevent her from being seen.”
Alwyn, himself, has also spoken on preferring keeping his relationship with Swift private, in an interview stating “I think we have been successfully very private and that has now sunk in for people…but I really prefer to talk about work.”
Once their relationship took off in full swing, the two did not hesitate to be seen in public together, attending various high-profile events together, like the Jingle Ball, Joe’s movie premieres, and even the BAFTAS.
In August of 2019, Taylor dropped the album, “Lover,” in which she gushed about Alwyn, calling him her “London boy,” “lover,” and, of course, “magnetic force of a man.” The discography also included many marriage allusions, including wanting to marry Joe with “paper rings,” solidifying how serious their relationship really is.
In her next 2 albums, “folklore” and “evermore,” Joe actually is credited under the pseudonym William Bowery in songs “coney island,” “betty,” “champagne problems,” and “exile.” In fact, Taylor even thanked Joe during her Album of the Year acceptance speech at the 2021 Grammys.
