When it comes to photography, it’s all about quality, style, and authenticity. It’s also about branding your work and getting your art seen.
Tatiana Brown, a senior here at Penn State has all of that. While majoring in photography, Tatiana began to build her brand. See, it takes a lot of work to be seen and heard these days with the busyness of social media. But Tatiana is doing it and she’s very well known around campus now.
According to Tatiana and obviously seen through her work, you can see that she has her own unique style when it comes to photos. They’re clean and crisp AND no editing. What makes her brand unique is that she does not like to apply many edits at all if any to her photos. She believes that the less edit, the more natural the photo will be. Bright and vibrant is what she goes for.
To achieve this she has had the help of her boyfriend and friends. It started when her boyfriend who happens to be a DJ needed pictures for his events. Tatiana did not take her photography skills as serious, however, her boyfriend helped with that. Once she started taking pictures for his events, she began doing more and more. She was already involved with the Black Student Community here at Penn State and was able to mingle with friends to get the word out about her photography.
Tatiana has already been the photographer for many big events at school including the football games and Penn State’s Welcome to the Neighborhood Organization. She also does graduation photos, photos for athletes, and honestly any event you need a photographer for! She does it all.
The time came to where her work was growing and she needed a name. After being given the nickname Tatortot since middle school, she decided to call her brand Tatortot Productions. Most of her marketing is through Instagram, which is very popular and extremely important these days when it comes to selling your product. She also has business cards and uses personal interactions to build connections to get her name out.
Her passion for photography started during her childhood. Tatiana grew up in Uppermarlo, Maryland and when around her father, he took many pictures of her, so she became comfortable being around the camera. Since then she always had a camera of her own.
Graduation is just over the horizon for Tatiana and with her degree, she plans on turning her brand into an LCC company. However, in the long run, she wants to own her own production company. In five years, she sees herself traveling, continuing her photography brand, and producing videos for companies, artists, athletes, etc.
For anyone interested in photography, Tatiana is the one to contact for tips and/or advice. I asked her what her best advice would be to anyone interested in taking this route and she wanted it to be known that it’s important to focus on your craft, practice, and master the fundamentals.
