Sociology of Deviance: CRIM/SOC 406 (online course)

Program Summary 

Two embedded courses, CRIM/SOC 406 (Section 001) and CRIM 469, will have an embedded travel component in Amsterdam during the same week over the summer. The course activities will be separate and will not overlap. Students may choose to enroll/participate in either one or both of the courses. Students will pay a different fee depending on if they participate in either one or both of the courses (see below). This fee covers the travel component of the embedded course and does not include summer tuition. These courses are taught online from mid-May to late-June, and the required travel component will occur from July 24 – August 2.

 

Embedded Course Information

Students must be enrolled in CRIM/SOC 406 Section 001 (online course) for the Summer 2020 semester to participate in this required embedded travel program. Students must have permission from the faculty leader to enroll in CRIM/SOC 406 Section 001 for the Summer 2020 semester.

Prerequisite:  SOC  012 , SOC  013 , or SOC  005 , or permission of program

Estimated Program Costs

The program prices listed below are the maximum cost for the program(s). There is a strong possibility that the prices will be reduced based on the number of students that enroll in the programs.

IMPORTANT: This fee covers the travel component of the embedded course and does NOT include summer tuition. Remember that summer tuition is often paid as ‘part-time per credit’ and will differ based on in-state or out-of-state residency. Please visit the Penn State Tuition website for additional information about tuition costs.

If 10-12 students enroll in each program:
One Program: $1,600
Two Programs: $2,600

If 13-15 students enroll in each program:
One Program: $1,400
Two Programs: $2,300

*NOTE: The Embedded Program Fee will be billed to participants’ PSU Bursar Accounts in early June and the payment will be due June 22, 2020.

The Embedded Program Fee for this program includes: accommodations; transportation to/from the airports in Amsterdam; transportation related to academic activities; fees related to academic activities/speakers; administrative support

The Embedded Program Fee for this program does NOT include: course/credit tuition; airfare; domestic transportation to/from the airport; meals; spending money (souvenirs, etc.) or gratuities.

Note: Students are expected to arrange their own flights to/from Amsterdam (with guidance from the faculty leader about arrival/departure time windows); the group will not be traveling together.
